Regarding the Northern Colorado game. Orms played the entire second half and only added about 70 yards to the passing total. I don't think the choice of QB had much to do with the outcome. The Beats were physically out manned and out performed by Lindenwood on both sides of the ball.

So, I guess that the gist of what Venus is trying to say is that the two biggest idiots in the college football coaching world are Mike Riley and Earnest Collins. One benches an experienced QB and gets clobbered for it, while the other screws around with suspensions to "guarantee" a win vs a "lower" school, but gets pie on his face anyway.

What goes through people's minds sometimes is beyond me. While I disagree with quite a few of you guys on a consistent basis, most of you at least have some semblance of logical reasoning for your positions. I don't think there are any viable arguments for EITHER of these bonehead decisions....

Kansas was beatable; which I guess is no shock since North Dakota State beat the Jayhawks last year. Basically a game where both offenses ran up and down the field but McNeese had a 1st half stretch that put them behind the 8 ball.

First, while trailing 7-0, McNeese did a trick play where the QB hit one wideout behind the line then that wideout threw it downfield for a TD to another. But "on further review" it was determined that the first wideout didn't get enough depth so it was a forward pass instead of a lateral. McNeese had to settle for a field goal to make it 7-3.

Then Kansas drove down inside the McNeese 10 and McNeese stopped them on third down around the 5. There were two penalties on the play. Kansas got called for an illegal chop block and McNeese got called for dead ball personal foul for a late hit. The outcome was a 15 yard walk off against Kansas followed by a half the distance walk off against McNeese. Since the McNeese penalty was dead ball it was automatic first down Kansas at about the 10. Kansas scored to make it 14-3.

A little later McNeese stopped Kansas on third down a little short of midfield but a McNeese defender got called for unsportsmanlike conduct for jawing at the Kansas bench. Kansas went on to score a TD to make it 21-3. After that it was trading scores.

The silver lining is that McNeese's offense looked very good. The Cowboys ended the night with 420 yards and their redshirt soph quarterback was tabbed as Southland Conference offensive player of the week after hitting on 22 of 27 passing attempts. Basically they just needed for the defense, which had its hands full, not to keep Kansas drives alive with dead ball "after the play" penalties when they DID get the Jayhawk offense stopped.

An interesting thing to note is the difference in scheduling shown by the conferences. Look at the level of difficulty the Big Sky schedules compared to everyone else... Nearly everyone in the Big Sky went in tough (NoCo and Portland State excluded), while the rest of the conferences listed only had a couple of teams play up.

The Patriot can't ever expect to get much respect with the weak-ass scheduling they do....

Good point. It wasn't all that long ago that people back East were complaining that Montana wasn't playing "anybody," yet nobody back there would step up with the home-and-home. To some degree, the entire Sky is susceptible to those charges due to the dearth of other FCS teams in our area, unless the Sky AS A WHOLE plays "up". This year, for the most part, we're doing that. Whether this is a trend or an aberration remans to be seen.

Really? Weak ass scheduling. You have no clue. They play UConn, Army, New Hampshire, Umass, North Dakota State, Liberty, URI, Stony Brook, Penn, Harvard, Yale and Albany.

Lehigh could easily play 4 or 5 ranked teams, UNH, Liberty, Colgate, Holy Cross and Yale.

Lehigh and Holy Cross play two of the better OOC schedules in the country.

You do realize that outside of I believe Fordham no PL team is a bowl counter for an FBS team, so unlike the Big Sky or MVFC or CAA they just can't load up on FBS money games.

Hell Lafayette came to Fargo to play a one and done when they easily could have scheduled some regional game. They came to Fargo to challenge themselves, that says something about where they want their football program to go.

I believe Colgate and Lehigh are. The Raiders played Syracuse last year.

How can a school that doesn't offer scholarships be a counter? FBS schools can play anyone they want, hell Minnesota almost played a DII school a few years ago but if you want the game to count an FCS needs a certain amount of scholarships.

Yup, it's based on equivalencies. The PL league are neither non-scholarship or scholarship, they're a hybrid. The IL is basically the same way. The difference is some of the schools, like Harvard, offer their own financial packages.

Thanks for not beating up on Portland State, guys. Our first game last year was UO - we were trashed and had injuries to boot. We did the same the year before - wasn't that the season we played three FBS? Southern Oregon, NAIA, was one big drop, but it was worth it. The first string came out after the 1st quarter; no injuries. So the "real" first game will be against Northern Arizona week after next.

In regards to the CAA....

Best performance: Richmond over Duke - don't care about the quality of the BCS opponent it's still a pretty big deal in my opinion.

Worst performance: Toledo over New Hampshire - game seemed like it was never even close from the very beginning.

Surprising result: Between Navy over Delaware and North Carolina over James Madison - I thought those games would have been somewhat closer. Maybe not wins for the CAA members but a lot more competitive.

Not knocking Portland State because I know the difficulties in scheduling, but I just don't see how any game that isn't a potential "counter" is worth it. I would kick your AD in the balls because PSU needs some sort of miracle to make the playoffs with that schedule needing 7 wins out of a possible 9 (Division I counters). And that's the reason I hope we never play a DII again. It's not like FBS vs. FCS where they can at least count those wins towards bowl eligibility. Hell, I'd rather play another FBS on the road than a DII at home. Playing those games prepares your team better for Conference play and if you're playing a BCS school you get paid, to boot.

Atrocious week for all but two or three teams in the NEC. Albany and CCSU looked pretty good this week. Wagner won but beat STFA (wow).

This week doesn't look to be any better.

Edit required; it was the Pioneers, not Red Foxes, who gained only 32 rushing and gave up two long TD passes.

Really, I have no clue? In your list of supposedly "tough" games, you list a Big East team (the weakest of the BCS conferences), a non-AQ FBS team, 3 teams from FCS power conferences, and a host of nobodies. In the first week alone, the Big Sky played Washington, Oregon State, Washington State, Arizona, Tennessee, and Wyoming.

The better PL programs play solid schedules. Look at them if you don't believe me.

You do realize that URI was 4-4 in the CAA last year and figures to be pretty good this year given the number of returning starters? Yale is always a contender in the IL and Albany is one of the top NEC programs. Please learn about FCS as a whole.
