Coach Dickerson and his staff achieved the initial goal of their season - win the first game. I hope you stay undefeated Coach!

The Brevard Tornadoes came to Boiling Springs and brought their confusing triple option offense with them. While our team was much more athletic, the Tornadoes executed their offense effectively and caused lots of confusion for our defense and scored the first touchdown of the game.
While the option game was effective for the Tornadoes, I noticed that our defense was always swarming around the football and noticed there was usually more than three defenders involved in many of the tackles.

When the Runnin' Bulldogs weren't swarming around the football, they were also flying around the field making big plays. Here is team leader Devin Johnson with one of his 15 tackles for the evening.

Brevard's defense was also very aggressive and caused QB Chandler Browning to have to throw under pressure and on the run.

Despite Brevard's aggressive D, Tre Perry was able to catch 6 passes for over 100 yards.

Fortunately, the Runnin' Bulldogs had a balanced attack and were also able to effectively run the ball. Kenny Little returned from last year's injury shortened season to rush for over 100 yards.

Juanne Blount also rushed for over 100 yards!

As the game came to a close, Coach D continued his pattern of making sure that those who support the Runnin' Bulldogs know that they are appreciated. After the game, the football team went to the home stand and thanked the Marching Bulldogs for all of their hard work and support.

The Runnin' Bulldogs will find lots of room for improvement across all positions after the coaches review and evaluate the film from Saturday's game - and isn't that the purpose of playing the first game. Even though the level of competition will be higher at Ohio U on Saturday, I expect our boys will be well prepared to represent Gardner-Webb well. I hope to see you there.
Go Runnin' Bulldogs!
