How many students do you average?

JMU has sold out its student allotment of 8,000 tickets for the home opener on Saturday.

Before expansion students would be allotted 5K tickets and most games they would all be claimed.

With our expansion, this year there are 4,100 student tickets. I believe it was 3,100 previously. I'm sure they will "sell-out" (the tickets are "free" for students - meaning they pay for them in their fees regardless whether they go to the games).

Our enrollment is a little over 13,000 so I guess that means about 30% of the students. There's such a big range of enrollment sizes among the schools, I think absolute numbers are relatively meaningless compared to percentages.

The bigger question is, why do schools only ask how other schools are doing at something when their school finally does it pretty well?

Nobody at JMU was asking questions like this ten years ago.

Because JMU hasn't done it well the past 6 years? Right.

I have consistantly ducked this question.

Very good point. Obviously small-private institutions won't be averaging over 3K.

JMU's enrollment is right around 19-20K. When I started in 2006, I believe there were around 16K undergrad.

Liberty doesn't set aside tickets for students. But one side of our stadium is for students, and it's always packed. I'd say 6,000+ on average.

Gosh, you'd think they'd stay in the parking lots for the tailgating.

I don't think most of us would be welcome at a Liberty tailgate. :ohno:

Bigger question is, how many student butts will be in those seats in the 4th qtr. JMU students will be back to their tailgates. W&M students......back to the library.

At least your students go inside the stadium.

Liberty: Undergraduates 13,400and 60,000+ online

WTF?

i was thinking 6,000 out of 13,400 showing up seems very unlikely then i saw there are 60,000 online students.

Roughly 3000 in the past. New endzone seats 4100 for students I believe. Almost 2000 had their tickets in the first 24 hours this week.

I know at least 90% of Griz fans would be kicked out and asked not to return within about 10 minutes.

This. It's great we've got 25K at the home opener and 8K of those are students...but if only 3K of the students stay, we're down 20% in the fourth quarter, EVEN in a close game. That, in the words of the immortal Chuckie Barkley, is turrrible. Oh, and I know I'm the one that posted about selling out homecoming and family weekend, but I'm worried the fourth quarter attendance will be atrocious at those games...

Not sure why. The score will be 10-3 by then. JMU will still have a chance at a comeback.

Aww, who am I trying to kid. There will be no chance. Time to tailgate.

Very, very few online students go to the games. They are scattered all over the world. Alot in the military.

This was the stadium at 12,000 capacity a few years ago:

This is what the student side looks like every week:

The student side is half of the stadium. Half of 12,000 = 6,000. Thus, 6,000+
