Old Dominion at Delaware

Well the time has finally come. Upstart Old Dominion will travel to Newark for their first official conference game, and it will be against one of the CAA's bluebloods.
This puts us in an interesting position. Nobody expects us to win. No pressure right? But a Delaware loss could put the Blue Hen season in dire straits considering the remainder of the CAA schedule awaits. Is the pressure then on Delaware?
Unfortunately, I will not be there to meet the many Hens from this board (my kids decided to be good baseball players and have numerous games this weekend
). I would have loved to talk smack and wet whistles with you, after a stop at SLL of course
. But that doesn't mean we can't have a little fun between now and then. So let the games begin.....
Delaware is going DOWN.

ODU wins by 14. Total meltdown ensues on gohens, caazone, ags, and this place. UMass fans worry.

That's what I like to hear.
My take is that ODU will come out pretty fired up and this will be a ballgame, maybe even a 7 to 10 point ODU lead at halftime, and then Delaware comes out and dominates the second half, winning by 10 to 14.
I'll go 38-24 Hens.

I'll say 35-14, just for schittz and giggles.

You are being generous.
If ODU cannot do a better job at:
1. Stopping the late hit personal fouls
2. Challenging passes in the zone 10-15 yards down the middle of the field
Then, it will be a relatively easy win for Delaware.
We gave away way too many oportunities at this weekend's "Monsoon Bowl" vs Hampton for exactly the reasons listed above.

Wish we were opening CAA play with Nova, like to keep the longest win streak in FCS going a little longer. I think UD might be the most complete team in the CAA.

ODU is going to really get a wake up call. It may have taken a little longer than most years, but Delaware finally got that tune up they needed. 31-14 Hens and its not gonna be close.

I guarantee we'll score more than 14. I also guarantee an ODU win.

Well, Well, Well. What do we have here. A Guarantee....

After a saturday of nostril shots of Jim Beam and Jack Daniels during the HU/ODU tailgate, young Smudge may be feeling his oats somewhat.
However, we most assuredly are not West Chester or DSU, and the game will, at a minimum, hold some drama for some time.

If ODU wins I cannot wait for all of the ODU fans to come out and blow up the boards. Gonna be great.

The only tune up Del St gave them was the 3rd string got a chance to play.

ODU offense vs. Delaware defense could be reasonably competitive.
ODU defense vs. Delaware offense is the mismatch.

I will be interested to see if we can stop the run. I think we will do OK. I am assuming that UD is more "run" oriented. Our pass defense gives the underneath zones (bend but don't break) that move the chains.
Who will start at QB for the Hens?

Probably won't know who is starting at QB until the end of the week. But given that both are very good it really shouldn't make that much of a difference.
UD 35 - ODU 24

Hmmm I can see ODU fans trying to come out on top either way here. Keep in mind, if you talk a big game this week you will be crushed to an equivalent basis afterwards. You're a conference member in league play now, no more Campbell's and little sisters of the poor. If you're going to chirp this week, the excuses of "well it was our 1st CAA game", or "we'll be better in a few years" don't fly.
That being said, yea if ODU was opening against VU they'd win, if they were opening against TU it'd be a good game. However, you're not. UD looked like their old selves on Saturday night - everything clicked.
What I expect? It seems to me that ODU doesn't play defense very well, kinda like the high school slut we all knew, everyone scores. Expect UD to be no different - with the best OL in the country and the best back in the league, if not the country coming right at you.
I've read the amusing, yet informative Rich Radford blogs (who by the way votes in the TSN poll and put ODU at #9 this week
). The "two-headed" running attack ODU has will run into a brick wall early & I expect to see DeMarco putting up 40+ pass attempts.
When it's all said & done it'll be UD by around 3 TD's, will put the official prediction out maybe Wednesday, Monday is always too early for that....
Will be interested to see if ODU travels at all. I was surprised to read that ODU announced another sellout Saturday (19K+) but maybe had 10K actually there. I know it was raining but does that happen often??

All the pressure is on Delaware this week. ODU should come in fired up and may well have the lead at half. But I think Delaware settles in and wins this one.

The noon start is unfortunate for ODU attendance. I believe quite a few Norfuckers would have gotten up early Saturday and made the four-hour trip up Delmarva on US-13 for a 6pm start. With the noon start, they have to take time off on Friday and do the hotel the night before.

Perhaps a Norfucker can answer this for me. What is the largest road crowd ODU has played in front of to date?
I'm not so sure about your statement, Andrew.

This was a game I had circled on the calendar when the schedule was released. Instead have to attend a civil union ceremony for a friend who I previously thought was straight, but it turns out prefers jousting, apple jelly & renaissance fairs and so schedules weddings for unacceptable fall weekends.
But anyways I doubt we'll know about the QB situation until at least Weds night after the KCK show.
Forecast for Saturday (at least at this point) is 70s and sunny, so weather shouldn't have any impact either way.
UD has gained some confidence from the DSU game, but is not so far removed from embarrassments versus West Chester and Navy, and frankly EWU to feel they can walk through this game. I expect we should be at an absolute emotional fever pitch given that it's the first real game of the season, and that we need to puff out our chest against what is going to be a newcomer, but future big time player in the conference.
I agree with the analysis that I think ODU's offense, at least their passing game, should be able to hold their own against UD, and likely have some success. If ODU scores 14 or fewer I'd be shocked, and very impressed with our defensive performance.
I expect UD to prevail in the end by maybe 7-10 points as a result of a strong effort running the football and controlling the pace of the game. But I think ODU will definitely come to play, be fired up, and set themselves in motion for a very nice and respectable first season in the CAA.
Welcome aboard (officially!!) to the ODU Monarchs!

Oh yea, I almost forgot to mention. Bobby Wilder is a twink and ODU sucks.

I fully expect our first of many "L's" this year in our first year of CAA play. However, this looking down your nose and "know your place" comment is arrogant and unnecessary, particularly when your non-FBS opponents have been DSU and West Chester.
Let's hope for a good game that ODU can keep competitive, but you can take your "know your place" comments and shove them up your blue poultry ass.

First, understand this is not basketball (even though UD does well against ODU in hoops for some reason). Second I never said "know your place", what I did say is don't come on here & chirp all week & then after you get your ass handed to, and yes you will get your asses handed to you on Saturday, come back on here and say "well we never expected to win anyway" and "it's just our first year". Do I think ODU will be a good addition to CAA Football? Sure I do, you'll be light years better than Towson ever has been (yea I saw you lurking Andy). You're just not going to win on Saturday & you're not buying yourself any leeway with blue poultry ass comments.
I know you're a newcomer & you don't know any better, but you're more than welcome to come to Newark, get your fill of scrapple, take your beating like a man, and go the hell back home (take the bridge/tunnel so you have to pay the toll as punishment).
PS- We'll be in Norfolk next year probably so tell the girls to lay off the candy , I don't want a lot of fat when we spank that heiny!
