Thomas O'Brien, who has been the Jackrabbits' starting quarterback since November, 2009, abruptly decided to quit the team. He threw for a career-high 376 yards, 2 TDs, and 3 interceptions in a blowout loss to Cal Poly Saturday.

I don't know what to say other than "wow". Did he state his reasons for quitting? Was it academic or personal reasons?

Good discussion on http://www.bisonville.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Dont know about the SDSU board havent been there in years.

This might be the changing of the guard. It might be Stigs idea? Who they got? I know they were stock piling QBs.

This just shows how much of an idiot you are and how poor of a fan of college football you are. If you knew anything about your "Big 3" and were a fan of the game not just the bison you would know we've been thin at QB for some time now, our stockpiled QB's all transfered out because they knew they wouldn't get any playing time with O'Brien in the starting role. It was not Stig's idea, why in the hell would a coach ask a scholarship player to quit the team because of poor play. So really in reality you know nothing. All you know is your dumbass fantasy world of the "Big 3."

You have a hot prospect on the bench. O'Brien is faltering. Stig makes a move. O'Brien reacts negatively and they part ways. Thats all Im saying. If you know better tell us.

Please, there is a thread all about the Dakota Big 3. I know you Jacks dont like it now that Jr. Member USD has been admitted, its a sour pill to take, but you have to come to your senses, drop your anger and hositilities in favor of welcoming in USD, a school that has taken the steps to restore the old traditions and conference ties. :twocents:

Terry Vandrevec, Sioux Falls Argus Leader has a series of tweets, articles, and commentaries about this event without being overly judgemental.

http://www.argusleader.com/article/2011 ... tball-team" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This is not a grades issue, somewhere along the line, TOB apparently "lost" his drive/passion for football, and IMHO was looking at a demotion to part-time starter or 2nd string behind RS Frosh Austin Sumner. Sumner has the build, and hopefully, the desire to turn the Jacks around. Lacks the experience, and was never able to unseat TOB as starter, so apparently, SDSU coaches felt that staying with TOB was the best choice. Stig did have a "discussion" about TOB's Cal Poly performance which had at least two major gaffes by TOB, with TOB. A day later he quits.

I'm a long distance supporter for the Jacks, and here's the link to the SDSUfans.com/board discussion.

150 posts in 24 hours in the Rabbit den. Lot's of jawin' going down about TOB.

I just picked this up in the Fargo Forum:
Head coach John Stiegelmeier made the announcement late Monday. He did not comment on the reasons for O'Brien's decision but told the Argus Leader that O'Brien was emotional after a lopsided loss last weekend at Cal Poly and told the coach Monday he was "going to walk away" from football.

sucks to hear your quarterback quit.

how does this affect the trophy of the Dakota Big 3 this yr? was sdsu the frontrunner? i keep hearing that ndsu is overrated being ranked and has done nothing.

The big 3, per other thread, is SDSU, USD and NDSU. USD will not play either SDSU nor NDSU this season. The only trophy is the Dakota Marker, which is played for by SDSU/NDSU. The game is in Brookings, a place were the Bison have not won since transitioning from DII.

That will be 5 games from now. Austin Sumner should be well settled in as starter, or Jacks will be in complete chaos as it is. There are a lot of D players hurt as of now, and their health will need to improve.

This will be a tough game because of the rivalry. A lot can happen between now and the Dakota Marker game!

Is Alex Kling playing at all on D? I live in Belle, watched him play high school ball. He was a great QB and S at the high school level. His QB skills probably could have carried over to Black Hills St. or Mines, but he opted to go D-1, where he definitely fits in better as a S.

Oh yeah, this is a TOB thread....I will always fondly remember his one and only appearance in Washington-Grizzly Stadium :D .

The primary thing that TOB needed to accomplish this season was to cut down on his INT. He was headed WAY in the WRONG Direction! He's had through three games had more TD's for the other team (Pick-6) than he's scored himself + as pass completions. Wish him well, would prefer to have the experienced QB as back-up, but if he's given up on FB, need him out. It will be interesting to see how Somner does. Ill St should force him to pass, alot, as they've been good D against the run.
