UMass will play in front of 19,818 ODU fans wearing black (because we're friggin' morons, IMO). Family weekend so there will be a lot of people on campus. 7:00 ET kickoff for TV.
Let the analysis begin...

I'm not too sure what to make of UMass so far, but I just don't see ODU's defense stopping anyone in the CAA this year.
Barring a complete collapse, I think UMass wins by at least two touchdowns...and that's with giving ODU 7 points on special teams.
But, the beauty of college football is that they don't play the game on a message board. Good luck ODU!

Yeah. I'm spent after all that went on last week.

During Morris's time at UMass they've typically thrown the ball around the park a good amount. But I think this year, UMass's strength is probably in their running game. Accuracy and decision making have been problems with UMass Qb's as I recall. If I was putting together a defensive gameplan for ODU, I'd do exactly what they did against UD. Hope to slow down UMass running game, and put the game in the hands of the Minutemen QB's arm

A couple of hundred years ago, the minutemen had a slow start vs. the monarch's men in Massachusetts and kicked their butts around for years, until finally the minutemen regrouped, made adjustments after the monarch's men made a strategic error and bottled themselves up across the river not far from the ODU campus and with the help of the French navy who beat the monarch's navy to the Hampton Roads bottled up the monarch's men in Virginia and ground out a close victory.
This time I'm expecting that the monarch's men will win a a close hard fought hand-to-hand battle at the end as the French navy doesn't arrive in time and the monarchs win a close see-saw conflict all of which will play out in Virginia in front of the monarchs homies.

I agree with State Line...UMass seems to have an offensive gameplan similar to UD. Get the ball to your strong RB (Hernandez). I think UD has more athletic WRs who can make plays than UMass but it's tough to get a gauge after 3 games. Stop the run and make them pass. They won't be overwhelmed by the energy at ODU because they just played at Boston College but your players should feed off the loudest crowd yet. Good luck to both teams, should be a good test for ODU...back to back top 20 teams.

Well done LeadBolt. The minutemen are nothing but insurgents. We will squash them with a Surge. We have a Navy Admiral, Commander of the US Central Command, and a 4-star Army General as part of our alumni that will engineer the attack.

This will be the real test for ODU - a top level CAA team should be able to beat UMass at home. Lose here and maybe .500 in conference might be the best you can do. No shame in that of course as a first year in the conference team. UMass isn't great this year so it's a real good litmus test for ODU. To win they have to play much better defense than last weekend and they need to have DeMarco play much better as well - his poor play was really an eye-opener.

Yeah, but we have a huge supply of peanuts.

Should be a good game to watch. Umass will be licking it's wounds from the pounding from BC. Our strength is running the football and our run defense. BC did not hurt us with the run...Our passing defense and passing offense have been suspect this year. If ODU can effectively move the ball through the air, this will be a close game, as UMass will slow it down and pound the ball with their big o-line. Can ODU hang, yes of course. THey have some great players and some 1-A transfers on their squad..let's see how ODU plays a second CAA team in a row...not sure if there used to having a couple of physical teams in a row...they might be fine...who knows...should be fun to watch
I think ODU is capable of winning a couple of conference games this year, I just don't want the first one to be against UMass.

Lose here and ODU has almost no chance of going .500 in conference play. They lose here they're not going 4-2 in their last 6 league games.

I think our offensive game plan needs to be a little different this game than the past ones. I don't think our pass game will be effective without the run. UMASS has the best linebackers we will face this season. I think ODU should make use of Demarco as a runner this game and run some option. We really haven't done it much this year, but we need to throw something at them that isn't in our game tape. The other big thing is to try the deep pass more often. If their secondary is their weakness, then we need to atleast try it. We only threw a couple passes down field against Delaware.

I think its simple, stop the run like we did last week and hope Demarco plays a better game and puts up more efficient numbers. FWIW, even though ODU loss last week I am glad personal foul penalties were not a problem.

They might have THE best linebacker you'll face this season, but as a whole unit I beg to differ.

Please don't confuse rooting against vcu as rooting for their oponent. While the two may be somewhat related, they are distant cousins. (Although distant, and even close, cousins are engaging in matrimony and partenthood in North Dakota, I trust that, being on the east coast yourself, you understand that I am using the "east coast" meaning of the term "distant cousins"in this context.) It should be noted that no respectable school on the east coast wears purple and only the lowest forms of Homo Sapiens would do so. These low forms are often associated with streamer throwing as way to relax sexual tension. They live by the saying "Love the One You're With".

Hard to see ODU scoring 30 against anybody in the CAA.
Their offense scored only 10 against Delaware...and 7 of those came after a fake punt. Yes, a fake punt is part of the game, but really, they weren't going anywhere all day.
