I don''t mind the excitement but this topic gets beat to death so badly every year in the last 3 weeks of the season that starting it this early will be way way too much.

It's kind of like Christmas music and decorations. It used to be that you didn't hear or see them until after Thanksgiving. Now it starts at Halloween.
That said, I'm okay with ODU guys bringing this up. They're new to FCS, a playoff home game is a possibility for them, let them get excited.

I agree, but you gotta be prepared. I have a great feeling after these two weeks we could be 7-1 or 6-2 (Towson is gonna be tough this weekend). 1-2 more wins in our final 3 games could put us in a good spot to make the playoffs and financially, I can't see this hurting ODU at all. I think the bids are due in 4 weeks so now is the time to prepare for it.

Which is why I'm (not)surprised that Marty Miller came out and said that NSU has ZERO interest in hosting ANY playoff games. Not even a PC answer "we're still weighing our options" or something like that, just a blatant "No, we're not submitting a bid."
And people wonder why Norfolk State gets little coverage by the local media in the Tidewater region. Kudos to ODU for seizing the opportunity. That's how you play the game.

The Norfolk St guy isn't that dumb.
I believe the highest attendance figures for the Round of 16 last year were UD & App both at just about 13K.

But when was the last time Norfolk area hosted a playoff game? Hampton a few years ago? I'm not knocking NSU for not submitting a bid for financial reasons...I'm asking why the preemptive move to STOP discussion about it? NSU is no longer relevant in the local news because of it...they've guaranteed a road game...say what you want about ODU, but the bravado has people's attention. They don't even have to make the playoffs now, they have the spotlight.

Teams don't really make much $$ in the playoffs - there is a minimum bid & then the NCAA takes a majority % of the gate too - 75% the last I've seen. That's why year after year you see schools under-report attendance in playoff games. Cmon Rocks - you were at that UD-DSU playoff game a few years ago. The Tub was probably the most packed I've ever seen it, 22K plus & they announced 19. That's what I'm talking about. Then you guys went back to your normal suck-ass selves the following year.

Been a lurker for a while now but had to finally register to say that image sums up most forum discussions in general. And I agree, not about a UD thing, but that it does not make much PR sense to snub yourself from any media discussions.

Exactly, don't get me wrong, I COMPLETELY understand the finances as to WHY it wouldn't be beneficial to hosting a playoff game thanksgiving weekend, but what a way to complete alienate your fanbase and the city of Norfolk. Even when DSU made the playoffs back in 2007, Former president Sessoms came out publicly about our interest in hosting a playoff game (which has ZERO chance of happening due to UD vs DSU's stadium capacities), but it had folks talking. Something that NSU DOESN'T have now. ODU is Norfolk's shot at hosting a playoff game. Wouldn't you think the local media would eat that up? What is it about ADs with no vision and little understanding of PR skills.
welcome to the forums BTW (my first recruit

oh and to reiterate, billk:

OK - I hear ya Rocks. Plan makes sense but it's a gamble that you're going to get ODU. The UD/DSU game was a sure thing. Neither team would be seeded - they'd have to have a pretty decent bid to host.

thanks! As an odu alumni I'm totally new to the FCS football thing. As most odu football fans probably are, but absolutely loving it.
