With Georgia Southern rebuilding under new coach Chris Hatcher, The Citadel was a popular pick among league coaches as a darkhorse contender this season.

yes, they have all their tough games at home. If they can go .500 in home conference games, they'll definitely be a contender. Their conference road games are GaSouthern, Western Carolina, Chattanooga

I think it may be a toss up between them and GSU. El Cid wasn't bad last year, and that QB of their's is pretty solid. Plus, as we all know, the SoCon is pretty weak at the bottom. WCU and Elon will still suck, UT-C will probably be hurt by the suspensions and the lack of any support at home whatsoever. The fact that they get GSU later in the season, when the Iggles will have a few games under their belts doesn't play out to hot for the dogs.

Coach Higgins and his staff will be worth at least one game we don't win on paper. The DC and the OC will have had time to get everything in for this year. There will not be any CSU slip-ups this year and we have great leadership in the Senior class. This program will break in to the top three of the SOCON, don't know if it will be this year or not but it is coming.

Do you mean end the season in the top 3 at some point or become a regular fixture at the top 3 spots? The former I can see happening when one of the top 3 have a down season, but the other I'll have to see to believe.

Anyone versed in the history of the Southern Conference knows not to discount The Citadel when the team has had the same coach for more than 2 or 3 years and the team itself is mostly upperclassmen.
Marshall did so a couple times in the 80's and 90's when they were ranked #1 in the country and left Charleston with a loss.
To be honest, I am more concerned by the GSU game in Statesville than I am about Furman or Wofford. In fact, I think the game with Appy won't be nearly the blowout it was last year, either.
