JMU's Anderson: 374 yards in six quarters

Post by BDKJMU »

Ok, I'm not starting a Villanova @ JMU thread because Nova sucks and no one cares, so instead I decided to start one on JMU's sensational rSo TB Jordan Anderson in hopes of revisiting later.

In those 6 qtrs he's had 3 TD runs of 45, 49, and 80 yards. Course JMU's starting TB Dae'quan Scott had 3 straight 100+ yard games before injuring his shoulder vs UR and fumbling against Maine. This has prompted a debate on JMU's board on who the best back is & who should be starting...

-45 yd TD run at the 1:37 mark.
-49 yd TD run at the 1:53 mark
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

-80 yard TD run at the :17 second mark.
-Nice 16 yd run at the 1:01 mark.
-Impressive 25 yd run at the 1:38 mark, dragging tacklers for the last 8 or so yards.

Anderson is a BEAST. JMU is really blessed with a plethora of running backs and all sophomores and younger. Anderson has clearly emerged as the starter though. 150+ yards in the 2nd half (all of his touches) against Richmond and 202 against Maine. He backed up Evan Royster at Westfield in Fairfax, Va (who went on to break the career rushing record at Penn State and was drafted by the Skins in April) ... I believe he was a 3 year varsity starter and really tore it up ... was shocked we were able to recruit him.

JuJuan Latney (r-Fr) has also had a couple of near-100 yard games with limited touches, plus Dae'Quan Scott (r-So) has three 100-yard games.

(r-So) Dae'Quan Scott 109 carries, 513 yards, 4.5 YPC 6 TDs
(r-So) Jordan Anderson 62 carries, 486 yards 7.7 YPC 3 TDs (all but a couple carries came in last 6 quarters)
(r-fr) Jauan Latney 34 carries, 224 yards, 6.6 YPC, 1 TD

Damn. Talk of possibly moving Dae'Quann Scott back to scat-back / slot receiver and play Anderson/Latney as 1/2

And O-line is blocking very well. Is much improved from last year (despite what some naysayers claimed would be the case). And that is despite one of the 4 returning starters, Scott Jones, getting knee surgery in the Spring and just starting practicing last week. Jones was slated to move to tackle, but Josh Wells (former walkon) and AJ Scott (Marshall transfer) have been playing well enough, especially Wells, that Jones might not get his starting job back this season. Its great to have him as a 6th man though if someone goes down at OT or OG.

The last 6 quarters: 39 Carries, 374 yards, 3 TDs, 9.6 YPC

*EDIT: If you take away Anderson's performance against UNC (13 carries, 41 yards, 3.1 YPC) ... against FCS opponents:
49 carries, 445 yards, 9.1 YPC

Week 1 (@ UNC): 13 carries, 41 yards, 3.1 YPC
Week 2 (CCSU): 10 carries, 66 yards, 6.6 YPC
Week 3 (Liberty): DNP (benched after fumble inside 5 against CCSU)
Week 4 (@WM): DNP (still behind Latney and Scott as punishment for fumble)
Week 5: (UR): 13 carries, 162 yards, 12.5 YPC, 2 TDS (all in 2nd half)
Week 6: (Maine): 26 carries, 212 yards, 8.2 YPC, 1 TD

He's a bowling ball running down hill! Can't wait to see what he can do against Villanova's 4 true freshmen defensive starters and the 11th ranked rush defense in the conference.

Well, an interesting game today! JMU passed for 200+ yards! BUT, Dae'Quan Scott got some carries and had over 100 yards ... I was "way" off on my prediction for Jordan Anderson today ...

Jordan Anderson: 23 carries, 87 yards, 2 TDs
Dae'Quan Scott: 15 carries, 112 yards, 7.3 ypc
Jace Edwards: 9 for 12, 203 yards, 2 TDs, 0 Ints

Not bad, though.

I’ve tried to pay close attention to the OL play in the 3 games I’ve been able to tape, watching a lot of plays twice or in slo mo. A major factor in the #s that Scott, Anderson and Latney are putting up is the play of the OL- a HUGE improvement over last year. Almost night and day.

LT #76 6’6” 280 rFr AJ Scott- transfer from Marshall, where he reportedly was slated to start at OG for them. 1st few games looked like a freshman, but since has been playing well.

LG #70 6’4”, 290 rJr Earl Watford- 2nd yr starter, best pro prospect (TCN anchor & former UNC coach John Bunting was talking talking about this during the Maine game). Has been just mauling people. As long as he doesn’t get injured, he will get all CAA Honors, likely either 1st or 2nd team.

C #55 6”2”, 300 rSr Roane Babington, 3rd year starter, 2nd team All CAA last yr, pre season All CAA this season. Playing well. As long as he doesn’t get injured, he will get all CAA Honors, likely either 1st or 2nd team.

RG #74 6’5”, 290 rSo Matt Krout, 2nd year starter, playing well, has developed a nasty streak, usually playing up to and after the whistle, getting into some jawing and pushing & shoving matches with opposing players. But has drawn at least one 15 yarder so far. A big improvement over last yr when he was at RT. If he doesn’t get injured, he maybe is a possibility for 3rd team all CAA.

RT #71 6’5”, 295 rSo Josh Wells, 1st yr starter, former walkon & former HS QB. Playing very well for a 1st yr starter. Around the week of the UNC game someone on the Zone mentioned that Mickey said he was playing the best of JMU’s OL. With all the injuries last season, played some 2 deep at OL, TE, and DT. Wore 2 different jerseys last season. Last yr was listed at only 225, but some people on the Zone said he was up to 250. At the beginning of this season was listed at only 245, which had me worried he was too undersized for OL. Then I saw him on the field at UNC and said to my buddy next to me there is no frickkin way he is only 245. Turns out was a typo, he should have been listed at 295. If he doesn’t get injured, he is a possibility for 3rd team all CAA.

6th man: 6’5”, 290 rSo Scott Jones, started last yr at RG, was slated to start at OT this yr. Knee surgery this Spring, cleared to start practicing beginning of last week. Will have 3 weeks of practice under his belt by the ODU game. May not get his starting job back this season unless one of the starters goes down, but its good to have a good, experienced OL with some size that can step in at OG or OT if someone gets injured.
