What "Non-Major" conference team are you afraid of?
What "Non-Major" conference team are you afraid of?
Just because I'm curious, a conversation came up in another thread and I wanted to spin it for everyone to give input...
Imagine your team isn't going to make the 2nd weekend, and will be put into the opening round of the FCS playoffs. You now have the risk of playing a champion from a non-major conference. Which team would you be most afraid of, and why?
Let's just assume that Big Sky, CAA, MVFC, and SoCon are the major conferences. No offense to everyone else, but that's what I'll assume (I know the Southland has a couple solid teams, and they are certainly ones I would be afraid of). And I listed those alphabetically, so they are in no particular order.

I think App St. is afraid of the Southland, right?

So just drawing from the TSN Top 25, those teams are:
Lehigh
Sam Houston
Jacksonville St
TN Tech
McNeese
ND
AL State
Jackson State
I can't really say any of those scare me in particular.

Clearly put, I don't want to play Lehigh again this year. UD throttled them pretty good last year, but that was last year. Lum & his aerial show coming into the Tub would worry the hell out of me.
BTW - you can knock the SWAC teams & North Dakota off that list - North Dakota & South Dakota can both only reach 6 D-1 wins, if they were even eligible for the playoffs this year anyway.

There are two that could really do some damage IMO:
Lehigh
Sam Houston State Huntsville
Everyone else could put a one-half scare but will fade in the long term.

The answer to the question points to the team's style. I don't want to see a triple-option offense. I don't care if it's Northwest Dipshit A&M State. No friggin' triple-options!!!!

Are there good triple-option teams outside of the major conferences?CAA Flagship wrote:The answer to the question points to the team's style. I don't want to see a triple-option offense. I don't care if it's Northwest Dipshit A&M State. No friggin' triple-options!!!!

I somehow doubt that - I thought you'd find a segway to bring up our lack of success against the Griz too (damnit, I did it for you...)grizzaholic wrote:Sorry to bring up painful memories.ASUG8 wrote:

You brought it up not me. I wasn't going to...but I never had so much fun at a game, before/during/after, than those ones. Thank you.ASUG8 wrote:I somehow doubt that - I thought you'd find a segway to bring up our lack of success against the Griz too (damnit, I did it for you...)grizzaholic wrote:

Lehigh....after that....none.
Re: What "Non-Major" conference team are you afraid of?
I would consider the Southland to be majors, so besides them probably Lehigh

Why did you change that from Liberty to Lehigh?
Re: What "Non-Major" conference team are you afraid of?
Because I was thinking Lehigh and typed Liberty for some reasonKnucklehead wrote:Why did you change that from Liberty to Lehigh?

It was your subconscious. lol
Re: What "Non-Major" conference team are you afraid of?
I don't want to play Liberty again in Lynchburg. I actually had a dream after the W&M game that we played them in the playoffs and got smoked. Plus, I think it would be extremely difficult to beat them twice.
I would also be concerned about Lehigh.

Unless its in September. I remember your game against SHSU early in the season. Easy to say when a Southern team has to got the effing cold for a playoff game.Grizalltheway wrote:Certainly nobody from the Southland.

Why do Southland fans bring that game up ad naseum? We lost to the #4 team in the country, on the road, 7 years ago, let it go!slycat wrote:Unless its in September.
