MEAC being the MEAC

Norfolk state with 6 points and under 200 yds at home in a loss to Bethune-Cookman.

Ugly game. Any team in the CAA wins that game by 2 TDs.

Putrid, smelly crap and an embarrasment to 1-AA football.

No way that is a team anywhere close to the top 25,

I agree.

Why people continue to give the MEAC credit is beyond me.

But they'll probably still get two bids this year and lose in the opening round.......again.

well as bizarre as it is, didn't NSU lead West Virginia at halftime.

Glad someone else said this. I was thinking the same thing, but didn't want to say anything because this was my first MEAC game.

I caught some of the 3rd & all of the 4th quarter last night:

That was some seriously BAD football.

Other than by simply existing, what does the MEAC do to warrant an auto-bid. I'm installing whoever plays the MEAC this year in the playoffs as a 21 point favorite, and that may be kind.

I know they & the SWAC have this ESPN deal on Thursdays & late Saturday nights based on race, but man, I wish the CAA or some other FCS league would step up & try to replace this schlop.

On a side note, A&T being 1st place in the MEAC is like Towson being 1st place in the CAA.

How about giving Bethune Cookman some credit

I'll give them credit for performing 8 points less crappy than NSU. Both teams looked terrible. Fan support was terrible. Playcalling conventional and predictable. So, BCC gets credit for winning an absolutely terrible 1-AA game.

Legit question, what's a reasonable attendance number for a Thursday night game in your eyes?

We have sold out every home game, so my view is somewhat biased.

However, when the two bands and cheerleaders almost equal the # of fans in the stands, you are not reaching a "reasonable attendance number".

At some point the MEAC has to do something to earn some credit....

When is the "conference realignment" gonna filter down to our level and the MEAC goes all "Big East"?

I see what you're saying but you have to remember the BCU band numbers 300+ and those dancing girls... well, let's just say that when they travelled to Statesboro a few years ago in the playoffs they were quite the topic of conversation- more entertaining than the football team.

Oh, trust me, I fully appreciate the outstanding talent and performances of MEAC dance teams. I know of no conference that is even close (maybe SWAC, but never seen live game). If only the football could match the level of preparation and execution of those fine young women, then the MEAC would be a force with which to be reckoned.

I don't believe the talent of a team can be judged from a single game -- either from a big blowout win (or loss). I'm not a big fan of Thursday games, either.

That said, in the past I've been a big defender of the MEAC, and in general, the SWAC. SC State has placed some fine teams in the playoffs over the last 3 years - last year was not one of them - and in addition to the performance of BCC in 2010, I don't believe the MEAC deserves a second team until they score a few quality wins against some formidable OoC FCS foes during the regular season.

Yes they did.

We will have to see what happens in the playoffs this year.

At this rate we might end up seeing Morgan State as the MEAC rep this year.

MEAC has 13 teams now. We're not the CAA and we're not going to withdraw and have a MEAC title game and Legacy Bowl. Up to 4 teams can leave and they will be just fine. But I feel that the whole "Legacy Bowl" cloud that is hanging over the conference will lead to its eventual breakup.

Potential choices:
AEast/NEC: DSU, UMES (no-football)
SoCon: SC State, A&T, FAMU, BCU
Big South: SSU, NC Central, Howard, Coppin State (no-football*), Morgan State
CAA: NSU, Hampton

*Coppin has a club team that has administration support

Hey how come UMES has no football program?
