I'll pass. I'll be there with my wife, three kids and my sister-in-law and her husband.
We know people from ODU and like most of them, I don't wanna mess that up.

With the exception of the loss to freakin' Delaware, ODU has been playing over their heads. They come back down to earth this week. JMU by four scores.

Re: James Madison at Old Dominion
Well if we do not suddenly get healthy, we will be without at least 4 starters that I can think of. At two of those positions, the #2 may be out as well. RB and CB is where we are hurting the most. Last week we played #3, #5, and #6 at RB. #1 and #4 are lost for the season and we are hoping #2 can be ready this week with at best 90% health.
What's the story with the JMU players that were suspended earlier? Will they return this week?
I have a feeling the result of this game will be influenced by turnovers.

So you are evaluating us on the way we played in 1 game instead of the other 4 games?

Thorpe and Williams still have two games left on their suspension.

ODU doesn't have the talent to survive an entire CAA slate as intact as they have to date. Your collapse is immenent and this week marks the beginning of the quick decent back to reality. It's alright, though, you made a respectible showing in your first year.CAA Flagship wrote:Wait.....What?SunCoastBlueHen wrote:With the exception of the loss to freakin' Delaware, ODU has been playing over their heads. Offense: None since season started.
-UVgay 4 star transfer & returning starting WR Quintin Hunter taking redshirt due to torn Achilles in Spring (he played as a true Fr in 09' at UVGay.
-Returning 2 deep WR Kaveon Seaton been out the whole season.
-We all know about Thorpe suspended.
Defense:
-Jr starting DT Sean O'Neil season ending knee injury vs CCSU, should get redshirt
-rSr starting DT Nick Emmmons season ending knee injury vs Maine
-2 deep rJr LB Jamie Veney (started in 08' as a *true FR (PG yr FUMA) and 09', redshirt last yr due to calcium dceposits knee, season ending knee injury vs Maine. The other backup OLB Chase Williams is still suspended along with Thorpe.
JMU has 3 VERY GOOD LBs (MM said at the beginning of the season "We have 5 starting LBs") but is now a little thin at the position if anyone goes down.

Re: James Madison at Old Dominion
Best way to compare stats between CAA teams is to look at CAA games only since everyone plays such disparate OOC schedules. But you have to wait until teams have played 3-4 league games to make a meaningfull comparison. Well most CAAA teams have played 4 league games, 3 OOC, and had a bye. ODU has played 5 league games.
CAA Games only:
Scoring offense: ODU #1 at 33.6 ppg, JMU #5 at 27.2 ppg
Rushing offense: ODU #4 at 139.4 ypg, JMU #1 at 281.2 ypg
Passing offense: ODU # 5 at 262.8 ypg, JMU # 11 at 101 ypg
Total Offense: ODU #4 at 402.2 ypg, JMU #6 at 382.2 ypg
Scoring Defense: ODU #7 at 27.2 ppg, JMU #1 at 14 ppg
Rushing defense: ODU #3 at 125.6 ypg, JMU #1 at 55.5 ypg
Passing defense: ODU #10 at 254.2 ypg, JMU #3 at 190.0 ypg
Total defense: ODU #8 at 379.8 ypg, JMU #1 at 247.2 ypg

Re: James Madison at Old Dominion
Another thing to point out is JMU has had a bye week, and under Mickey JMU usually plays very well after bye weeks.
Last week MM quotes in DNR article about bye week:
"We will really evaluate ourselves this week in terms of formations on both sides of the ball, how much are we blitzing, what down and distance are we blitzing," Matthews said. "This gives you a time to evaluate what you're doing."
"I thought we'd be 6-1," Matthews said matter-of-factly. "I think we're going to win the rest of them. You're asking me what I think. But now reality, I knew we had a hard place to play at Liberty, hard at William & Mary. Probably 5-2's about right. I always think positively that we're going to win them all."
This week, Matthews said he'll limit the workload of a number of starters, including Edwards, to allow them to recover from injuries, "get everyone healthy for the stretch run."
"We certainly have some kids that are physically and mentally tired right now," Matthews said. "I think it will give us a chance to charge our batteries."

If you are referring to this year's Hens, you have to show some signs of success before you can have a collapse. Most Delaware fans, me included, knew this was a sub par team in week one. A collapse is what happens a team initially plays at an exaggerated, lofty level only to have reality and the law of averages smash them in the face as time passes. ODU is the Pittsburgh Pirates of the CAA.MadMaxMonarch wrote:I suppose you would be able to spot when a collapse is imminent.SunCoastBlueHen wrote:

Re: James Madison at Old Dominion
We're 23-7 over our first 30 games and have never been "blown out". How many games do you have to play to get past the "initial" phase where you can say the level of play is no longer "exaggerated", but is typical? Hopefully it is not just over half a baseball season. If that is the case, we have another 5 years to go.SunCoastBlueHen wrote:If you are referring to this year's Hens, you have to show some signs of success before you can have a collapse. I'm not backing SCBH's prediction, but let's not act like the level of competition faced over those 30 games is the same. The sample size on playing up to your opponents is much smaller.CAA Flagship wrote:We're 23-7 over our first 30 games and have never been "blown out". Exactly. I just hope all of these overly sensitve, naive, greenhorn ODU fans can take their pending bitch slapping with some dignity. I doubt it, but there is always hope.mcveyrl wrote:Let's not act like the level of competition faced over those 30 games is the same. The sample size on playing up to your opponents is much smaller.
