Kidd Brewer Stadium Expansion
Not sure if I am a fan of the triple deck a la Kyle Field.

FYI, this is in no way finalized. It's just a rendering they did for the campaign. The general idea is the same (phase out the track, permanent endzone seating with student housing on one side) but I'd be shocked if this isn't modified a lot by the time the shovels start digging.

What's that big red "U"?
Can you see the field from that building in the upper right corner? Do you count faces in the windows as attendance?

KBS has a track???
Re: Kidd Brewer Stadium Expansion
Yes. With students in their rooms expectations are that attendance will be slightly less than UT-Knoxville.CAA Flagship wrote:What's that big red "U"?

Re: Kidd Brewer Stadium Expansion
Dude, this is just freakin' awesome.......serious question, though. What is the plan with the track? I noticed that the new end-zone grandstand covers up part of it. Since this looks like a permanent structure, why not just get rid of the track altogether and lower the field?

Re: Kidd Brewer Stadium Expansion
Rumour is that there is an underground stream that runs under the field, precluding digging it down. I don't think you'll find many ASU'ers that want to keep the track around, but it seems we'll be stuck with it.EWURanger wrote:Dude, this is just freakin' awesome.......serious question, though. Re: Kidd Brewer Stadium Expansion
Badass, though I kind of like the aesthetic KB currently has with the trees. And is that building in the corner there now?
Re: Kidd Brewer Stadium Expansion
The trees are on the end with the bank - this proposal (if it's even that) shows the North end zone. Looks to me like the current old field house (in blue) would have to be demolished and the other two taller buildings would go in. It also seems like they're enclosing the small open area where the Rock currently is (in red), and I'd be really concerned about these buildings obstructing the view of Howard's Knob to the North of the stadium. The current field house is only a couple of stories tall, these look to be quite a bit bigger. Otherwise it looks pretty good, but who knows if there are any real plans to do this or if it's a work of fiction.Silenoz wrote:Badass, though I kind of like the aesthetic KB currently has with the trees. * Apologies in advance - I really don't intend to turn this into KBS picture thread #2,518.
Re: Kidd Brewer Stadium Expansion
No offense intended, but it just doesn't look that great. Seats are too far away from the field. They should get rid of that horseshoe end and put up some massive endzone stands. They'd be closer and louder than that third deck in the next area code.

The drawing is a 'conceptual illustrative rendering' being used as part of a campaign to raise the remaining portion of a $200 million endowment over the next 3 years.ASUG8 wrote:...

The drive started 3 years ago and is around the $115 million level in pledges -- I can't remember the 'proposed' level committed to athletics, and they didn't specify how much of the $115m raised so far was so tagged.
There is an article in The Charlotte Disturber about it ...

Re: Kidd Brewer Stadium Expansion
The truth is that Foreman Field at Old Dominion has/had a track (see pics below) that ran under the permanent stands in the endzones.
But it was only 3, maybe 4, lanes wide.

Part of the track. Similar to Ohio Stadium only ~10 years ago:CAA Flagship wrote:What's that big red "U"?
There is a creekbed and bedrock under the stadium that would apprently make it very expensive to lower the field and remove the track. I'm ok with it. No big deal to me.

Right, but if you put endzone seating like that in and add a couple decks to the visitors (?) side it kind of ruins it a bit imoASUG8 wrote:The trees are on the end with the bank - this proposal (if it's even that) shows the North end zone. Re: Kidd Brewer Stadium Expansion
I don't think the aesthetic with the trees would be hurt that much. We got lots of trees. Most of them will be unaffected by this.

Re: Kidd Brewer Stadium Expansion
How tall is that third deck? Would that be the second tallest structure in NC? I'm guessing that the BOA building in Charlotte is taller, maybe not.

It's certainly no Bridgeforth single sided stadium, but it looks pretty tall.JMUpurplehazed wrote:How tall is that third deck? Would that be the second tallest structure in NC? I'm guessing that the BOA building in Charlotte is taller, maybe not.
