Week 10: Missouri Valley Conference Power Rankings

1. North Dakota State: Let me pat myself on the back here. I've said all year and all summer they were the best team in the league and they showed it in their win against UNI. I will no longer have to put up with the crap from my friends from Iowa about this. NDSU is THE best team in the MVFC and THE best team in the nation!
2. Northern Iowa: Lost the game to NDSU 27-19, and may have lost their QB as well. Should be interesting to see if he is back for the YSU game.
3. Illinois State: ILSU takes down SIU 38-30. The Redbirds are one win away from qualifying for the FCS playoffs. They will get that win next week over WIU and go to 7-3 on the year. It will take a week 12 home win over UNI to guarantee themselves of a playoff spot though.
4. Youngstown State: Don't look now, but the Penguins are on a three game winning streak after demolishing Western Illinois 56-14 Saturday. The first team defense gave up 0 points, after giving up just 3 points last week. Northern Iowa better be ready, the best offense in the MVFC will be at the UNIDome next Saturday!
5. Indiana State: Bye week. They have the Bison at home next week. The Sycamores need this one badly as well.
---Drop Off--
6. South Dakota State: Wasn't pretty defensively, but they held off the Bears for a 43-36 win in Double-OT.
7. Southern Illinois: Lost yet again and now sit at 2-6 on the year. Tough times in SalukiLand.
8. Missouri State: Back-to-back impressive performances for this bad team. They move up to #8 this week! Woo-Hoo!!!
9. Western Illinois: They were down 28-0 by the time most fans were in the stands at Stambaugh, their weren't many lol, i.e. the end of the first quarter. Looked awful.

Finally settled the top 2 debate, I would still put Ind St. ahead of YSU. YSU has been improving, but I just don't see them at #4 yet. It could happen in time though.

Indiana State beat YSU and yet you put YSU above them? I don't understand your logic.

Some guinzone ranking disputes are settled on the field based on results, and others are not.

1. SDSU beat YSU.
2. WIU beat SIU.
3. YSU beat ILSU.

So what am I supposed to do knowing those remarks. Should I be offended that ILSU, a team YSU beat, is ahead of them? No. They are on a roll right now and deserve the hype right now.

I am sure there are more examples, but I view this on a week by week basis. YSU destroyed a team they should have destroyed and now have won three in a row going into the UNI game Saturday. I don't think there is any denying the fact that them and ILSU have come out of nowhere to make a run at a playoff spot, each with 3 losses.

Indiana State, as I've stated NUMEROUS times, was my #3 team in my preseason poll. They may very well finish it. However at this point, I will stick with the two hotter teams in the rankings.

Bottom line: YSU - UNI and INSU - NDSU Saturday. Will go a long way in determining the top 5 in this league.

That's complete bull shit. I responded to your post last week and the week prior about this and you ignored me after because you didn't like my reasoning.

Well here is my reasoning for you this week.

NDSU: 27
UNI: 19

I asked for a good reason not "I don't like moving teams".....

It's funny to see how easily your readers/commenters get under your skin.

What grinds my gears is you clearly ignoring my posts from previous weeks. Let's just ignore the fact I had them at #1 all summer and all season. Let's just ignore the fact they were undefeated on the year. Let's just ignore the fact they beat a Big Ten team, I don't care how bad they are, by double digits on the road.

Those are three valid reasons... Your response to that... zzzzz.

Bottom line, that nonsense is now over. NDSU is clearly the best team in the league this year. You know what would really top it off... Ending that drought against you guys just like NDSU did last week :).

Go Penguins!

Not going to happen...YSU still sucks.

Watch out Clenz... their offense is pretty good and with Rennie possibly out, anything could happen.

#2 offense in the country in TOTAL offense AND RUSHING offense.

Defense has improved drastically after that embarrassing loss to SDSU a month ago. Since the 2nd half against Southern Illinois, our first team defense has given up just 9 points. Quite the improvement for a defense that was giving up 28 ppg a few weeks ago.

Depends on what YSU team shows up this week--if the one that showed up for SIU and WIU shows up you can forget the automatic W whether they have Rennie or not.Either way Rennie or not here we come--hopefully for once the joke will be on you Clownz.

Not to mention that NDSU's offense put 27 ( ) on UNI's defense. YSU's offense is considerably better than NDSU's.

20 points on our defense, as one of their scores was a defensive TD.

Take SIU for instance... UNI scored 17 on them, NDSU scored 9 on them. YSU scored 35 on them.

That is not saying much since SIU does suck, but SIU faced UNI-YSU-NDSU in back-to-back-to-back weeks. At least offensively, YSU was the most superior. Defensively, have to give the nod to NDSU.

I would doubt that they lose both, but it is a possibility with Rennie out. That really opens things up for Ill St. & YSU to possibly get into the playoffs.

Could of been more had NDSU not fumble into the endzone, giving UNI the ball at the 20, instead of a Bison 1st and goal on the 1.

His hand crossed the plain as he was reaching out, but fumbled right before it got there. :( Tough break.
It's too bad, because we could have put 34 up on the "vaunted" UNI defense. :coffee:

YSU couldn't beat UNI when they had UNI at home...with UNI starting a freshman QB....again AT YSU....with a team that didn't have the same talent as this one.

Oh, and that QB has since quit the team because he wasn't good enough to get PT.

Lanpher actually complete passes at a higher completion % than Rennie and has a higher efficiency rating. When it comes to being a passer, Lanpher is better than Rennie.

If Rennie can't go it will be interesting to see how we balance run/pass though.

YSU lost seven in a row to end the season cause our defense got WORSE throughout the season. Our first team defense has been playing terrific and our offense is the #2 offense in the nation. We are better than last year and have played all of our league competition from last year closer this year. (ILSU L by 2, W by 7 - INSU L by 6, L by 2 - SDSU L by 10, L by 7 - SIU W by 3, W by 12 - WIU L by 2, W by 42.)

Anyways Rennie is QUESTIONABLE for Saturday's game. I am sure Wolford and staff will prepare as if he is starting because I've seen this line many a times before. Probably see Lanpher get some playing time as well.

I just have to say this.... while our team has been playing great, we have to remember who we played against. SIU is "somewhat" a good win, but St. Francis and WIU were expected wins. We knew we were gonna blow them out as both have a terrible defense and a offense that wouldn't challenge our D. UNI, on the other hand, is good. Really good.

Now I looked at the game notes for this game and the numbers would say we have a shot at beating them... if the defense does their part. Averaging 40 points and 482 ypg, we know were gonna score some points. BUT I don't think we'll put up 30-40 points on UNI's D. Opponents avg 15 ppg and shut the run pretty good too, allowing 123 rypg. Another thing is, they are good at forcing turnovers... they have 22! So they force over 2 turnovers per game. We will overpower their Defense at times, but it wont happen all game like in recent weeks....

Now our defense is another story. Although they been playing well lately, remember who the opponents were. And UNI is no slouch on O! Average 28ppg, or 4 touchdowns, while YSU gives up 3 1/2. Very balanced in both pass and run and are efficient. They average 373 ypg WHILE we give up 366. And we don't force a lot of turnovers, only 14 so far this year. Because this is a step up in competition, I expect YSU's defense to give up maybe over 400 yards... UNI is well capable of doing so.

Well to me, I think if the defense can slow down UNI and for the special teams to do a good job of field position and making plays between the 20-30 when we kick off, we have a chance to win. But unfortunately, defense and special teams will play a terrible game and give the chance of UNI's defense to slow down our attack.

31-17 UNI

Hope I'm wrong though....

Looking for a Guin win this week at the UNI Dome. My guess --- YSU 28-24.
