Whitney High School is a public magnet school located in the southern Placer County city of Rocklin, California, a settlement in the northern Sacramento metropolitan area. Whitney is one of two high schools in Rocklin Unified School District; its counterpart is Rocklin High School. The school is the district's newest educational facility, having opened in 2005 to freshmen and sophomores; Whitney's first freshmen graduated at the end of the 2008–09 school year. That same school year, Whitney was recognized as a California Distinguished School.

They say they made changes to the claws, but I dont see it, the only changes are color and name, and even the lettering is the exact same font.

Don't feel bad. Some D-III school up in New England uses the old UD "Dick the Chicken" logo. I forget what college it is, but I'm sure some UD fan can name it.
And I agree, I don't see one damn difference in the claws in that HS's logo from Weber's. That's a blatant ripoff, but it'd probably be poor style for a university to sue a high school.

I remember this happened to Towson with their tiger logo. Some HS changed the color from gold to orange and put it mid field on their new turf field. Towson gave them a certain time frame to replace it, 4-5 years I think.

They said worst case would be Weber would issue a cease and desist letter to the school district.
The cool thing about this is somebody liked our logo enough to want to make it thier own

Doesn't this happen a lot? Some school here in Florida "stole" Florida State's logo and back when I lived in CT one school "stole" Wisconsin's logo, and another "stole" Kansas State's logo....

The local high school is the Broncs. Last year, they changed their helmet logo to match Boise State's. Some years before that, they had used the Denver Broncos logo on their helmets. There's another school in our conference that is the Wildcats and uses Kansas State's logo and another that is the Bison and used to use the Buffalo Bills logo. Not really a big deal.

One has to inquire if a particular school has gotten permission. Many do (some don't)

I guess it depends on the school. Johnson City, TN's Science Hill High School is the Hilltoppers. For some reason they decided to use Duquesne's logo (I guess because of the top hat). They used it as the centerpiece of their brand new multi-million dollar football facility. And then Duquesne found out:
University of Wyoming sued McNeese State for logo stealing and won.. the "steamboat" bucking horse is copyrighted by the state of Wyoming, so now McNeese has a different horse and rider.

In that case, I'm sure Weber will be all over it.

Tell that to Wyoming who has gone after multiple high schools to protect it's logo.

Trinity College and the logo wasn't stolen. UD gave Trinity the permission to use the Tubby Raymond designed logo at the request of the Bantams' former coach. Not coincidentally, Don Miller starred for Dave Nelson's Blue Hens at QB in the '50's.

I still want to know why Wyoming chose to use the 2 feces colors for their school colors.

Wisconsin sued Waukee, Iowa to stop the use of their "flying" W. Had to change everything within a year or two and within 5 (or was it 10) on the basketball court and other larger budget items.
I know that merchandizing is a large part of college sports, but protecting their logo from paltry High School logo sales is chickenshit.

Looks like they decided to rip off FSU and Florida.

Bozeman High School (Hawks) use to have the same logo as the hawkeyes, except BHS was Black/Red/White. They had the logo for about 10 years or so. Then we had a Kicker that was recruited by about every school in the country ( Travis Dorsch). He ended up picking Purdue over Iowa, and 2 weeks later the school got a letter that said we had to change it. The joke around town was Dorsch cost us our logo.

My HS alma mater (St. Louis Park, MN) used a blatant ripoff of the St. Louis Cardinals interlocking SLT in the late 90's-early 2000's. Only difference was the T was replaced with a P and was orange and black, not red.
St. Louis Park still uses an interlocking SLP, but they skewed and stretched it enough so that it's its own design now.

For a while, Yucca Valley High in the Morongo Valley Unified School District (near 29 Palms) stole the oval "Y" used by BYU. I still have team workout shorts from the time I was an assistant coach on the JV team there several years ago.

URI and Colorado State all stole the logo of the St. Louis Rams.
