Missouri Valley Football Conference Playoff Picture

Post by guinzone »

The YSU upset over #1 NDSU shakes things up bigtime. Very real shot that this outcome occurs:

1. North Dakota State 10-1
2. Northern Iowa 9-2
3. Illinois State 7-4
Youngstown State 7-4
Indiana State 7-4

The playoff resume's would be:
Youngstown State: Wins over #1 North Dakota State, #15 Illinois State
Illinois State: A win over ranked Indiana State (They could still beat Northern Iowa, guaranteeing them a playoff spot)
Indiana State: A win over FBS Western Kentucky, an FBS team that has been on a roll as of late.

Who get's in?! Do all five get in?

If Wofford loses to Chatty, the Southern Conference would only get 2 teams.

Nice win by Central Arkansas, they should be in with a 7-3 D1 record, 8-3 overall. Texas St sent-off to the BS subdivision.

-UNH is in even if they lose to Maine
-G'Town has no shot at an at large.
-MEAC is only getting one team- Norfolk State.

You're on drugs if you think Illinois State is a lock. They are 7-3/5-2. Ill State (assuming lose to UNI) would be 1-3 vs likely MVFC playoff teams + a HORRIBLE loss to HORRIBLE OVC E Ill (2-9/1-7) + didn't play a I-A.

UNLESS Ill State beats UNI, they're not getting in unless 2 of these 4 lose: JMU, Wofford, YSU, Indiana State.
The MVFC might get 4. They're not getting 5 of 9 teams in.

Fixed it. Still would be 4 I-AA losses, one to a horrible team, if they lose to UNI.

You didn't fix it completely. Illinois State is currently 7-3 / 5-2.

Not debating you on what you are saying BDKJMU. Just wanting to point out things that are factual, like current records. That is all. :coffee:

Note in the Big Sky, if Montana loses to MSU next week and PSU beats Weber State, Montana will be in a tie for second place in conference with PSU ( MSU is number one). PSU will be 8-3. Two of PSU's games were to lower division schools however, and beating them doesn't count so PSU will be at 6-2 really, and under the "7 D-I wins" rule that isn't a written rule but tends to be followed, that would leave PSU out and Montana in. UNLESS the Big Sky gets 3 spots.

I think it will be very hard for any "6 D-1 win" team to make it in the playoffs this year. If PSU schedule had not had two lower division schools on the schedule this year I would say they would be in with that 7th D-1 win. I don't like the 7 D-1 win rule but yet it would piss me off if some team got in over my favorite team with 3 of their 7 wins vs lower division schools. If the playoffs expand to 24 the whole 7 D-1 wins will be out the window but until that happens teams in good conferences will have to schedule one or no lower division teams.

Illinois State could get bumped out but I feel they are a safe bet to make it. A lot would have to go wrong for them to get bumped. Georgetown has 8 D-1 wins and that is the only thing going for them. A lot of 6 D-1 teams would have to lose this week for them to get a spot. I agree MEAC will only have one team. The winner of the Florida A&M/ Bethune-Cookman will be 8-3 with 7 D-1 wins and would be a long shot meaning everything would have to work their way to get in.

Teams as of right now with 7 D-1 wins is 18. One team from the Ohio Valley will get a spot and the Big South winner will get in giving you a 20 team field.

First out list would be:
Non Northeast auto bid Albany/Duquesne
Georgetown
Central Arkansas
Illinois State

First in with a win next week to get to 7 D-1 Wins
Wofford
James Madison
Furman
Youngstown State
Indiana State

18 Teams with 7 D-1 Wins already
Sam Houston State 10
NDSU 9
Old Dominion 9
Lehigh 9
Montana State 8
Maine 8
Towson 8
Northern Iowa 8
Georgia Southern 8
Norfolk State 8
Georgetown 8
Duquesne 8
Montana 7
New Hampshire 7
Appalachian State 7
Illinois State 7
Central Arkansas 7
Albany 7
