Big South Championship Prediction thread

Post by Knucklehead »

Please post your Stony Brook / Liberty Predictions here.

Mine is Liberty 42 / Stony Brook 28

Mike Brown will be more healthy after the bye week than he has been in weeks. He will step up big time to avoid this being his last collegiate game and go pass crazy to Chris Summers, Pat Kelly, Ervin Garner and the rest as he did in 2010. Liberty's run game will have solid production as well (around 200 yds). Liberty will have to limit turnovers or SBU WILL take advantage for scores.

Asa Chapman, Nick Sigmon, Scott Highland and company slow down SBUs run game enough. Walt Aikens and company lock down on an island as Liberty sells out to the run. SBU will get their long drives and scores but will not put up the kind of #s they have recently.

Special teams scares me some, but I think Kevin Fogg (#1 kick returner in FCS) will return well and Matt Bevins (All American Kicker) will be back and solid as always.

Liberty 49
Stony Brook 46

Im expecting a good old fashioned shootout. Liberty's strength is the passing game and Stony Brook's is the running game. both teams will be looking to take advantage of their strength, although Liberty does come in with the top rushing defense in the conference. Lots of points are going to be scored but I think the Flames will have the last word and will come back to Lynchburg 5 time Big South Champions (first outright title since 2008)

Liberty is finally almost 100% healthy and have had time to recover. I don't think this game will be as close as some of you may think. Liberty wins by 2 TD's.

StonyBrook 34- Liberty 21. Liberty has struggled with lately with weaker teams at home.

All these preposterous scores...if EITHER team is going to score 50 in this game, I predict it'll be SB and not Libertard.

Youve got the two highest scoring offenses in the conference clashing on Saturday AZ. Liberty basically sleepwalked through the last two games and they got a good old splash of cold water to the face. I expect and a lot of my fellow Flames fans expect a LOT of points to be scored on Long Island Saturday. If I had to set an over/under on the game Id put it at 92.5

I'd like to know how SBU's juggernaut of a defense is going to hold us to 17 or 20 or 21? The lowest we've scored all year was 21 against NC State. And SBU has given up 31 and 28 their last 2 times out to VMI and Gardner Webb.

AZ is just a Liberty hater. If we were playing a pop warner team, he'd pick them. So just take his statement for what it is, worthless. SB fans keep saying that LU is like the 4th or 5th best defense they have faced this year. They are in for a surprise. Ask NCSU, JMU, And Lehigh about the Liberty Defense.

I agree Knuckle.

SB will be able to score, they have a great offense, but to think they will put 40 up is not realistic.

The juggernaut of a defense that is Presbyterian held Liberty to 13 points in regulation time.

Man I sincerely hope your players and coaches are taking that same attitude. Because I assure you this team is much better that either of the last 2 injury riddled and unimportant games would indicate. Go ahead and take that as a trend.

 Keep thinking that way. I think you should take a few cues from your coach: "The three losses they have, I’m not so sure they shouldn’t have won every one of those games when you look at the tape from start to finish. Those other teams had to play their best to win.”

Those 3 games:
NC State
JMU
Lehigh

Every single one of them is better than SBU.

That's just coach speak. Priore practically said the same the same thing about Charleston Southern.

Some interesting stats from Chris Lang:
Another wow stat: Stony Brook hasn't attempted a field goal in its last five games and hasn't made a field goal since September.
Funny how one game skews stats. Stony Brook was +6 in turnovers vs. G-Webb, +7 in its other nine games.
Liberty was -5 in turnovers against N.C. State but is +4 in its other nine games.

Psh I wish. I'll be stuck in North Carolina watching on MASN. Even though I'll be in a living room I'll still be wearing all Liberty apparel and hollering like a maniac during the game haha.

SB will be able to score, they have a great offense, but to think they will put 40 up is not realistic.
Stonybrook hasn't scored LESS than 40 since September 24th (and that day they scored 37).

Lets see here:

Liberty had VMI AT home, beat them by 6. SB went TO VMI, beat them by 28.
Liberty had Presbyterian at home, and needed OT to beat them 27-20. SB took Presby to the woodshed, 42-24.
Liberty gave up 27 to Coastal Carolina...SB tossed a shutout against them.
Liberty managed 35 against Gardner-Webb...SB put up 76 against them.

Need I go on?

It's not about "hating" Liberty. It's about being objective. Stony Brook, AT HOME, should be able to handle Liberty.

Translation: You don't have a single quality win....because IF you beat SBU, SBU will be your best (and only) quality win. Of course, the same goes for SBU.

Do you REALLY think SBU is 'overlooking' Liberty? The final game of the season, for the Big South autobid and playoff spot? REALLY? :? :?
