This one's dead even, I think, but TTU's pass defense appears to be a little better than UCA's run defense.
Here's my assessment of the matchups & my pick for the game:
- Quarterbacks -- Central Arkansas
Running Backs - Tennessee Tech
Receivers/TEs - Central Arkansas
Offensive Line - Central Arkansas
Defensive Line - Central Arkansas
Linebackers --- (push)
Secondary ---- Tennessee Tech
Kicking ------ (push)
Punting ------ Tennessee Tech
Return Teams - Tennessee Tech
Kickoffs ------ (push)
- Central Arkansas 31-34 Tennessee Tech

Congrats to the Bears of Central Arkansas! Way to get a playoff win for the Southland. Now please don't get beat 51-0 at Montana.

The draw the Southland got to start the playoffs was amazing this time. Central Arkansas gets Tennessee Tech and Sam Houston gets the Albany/Stoney Brook winner; now Stoney Brook.
I hope that if and when McNeese makes the playoffs again they can get a draw like that to improve their chances of getting of the first round schnide that's been going on since 2003.

Win the conference and not lose late in the season will fix that.

The first thing is to get through a season with a reasonable injury level.
It wasn't late in the season losses this time though. It was losing all three in the stretch against UCA, Sam Houston, and SFA. Losing to UCA in the first game of the stretch was particularly bad. UCA couldn't punch it's way out of a paper bag on offense and gave up over 400 yards on defense. McNeese had 23 first downs to UCA's 11 and outgained them 422 yards to 256. But it was a comedy of errors. The big one was when they had a first and goal at the UCA four but then a back ran it down to the 1 on first down and fumbled. A UCA guy picked it up at the two and returned it 98 yards for a TD. UCA ended up winning at home by 20-18.
Then they lost to Sam Houston the next week. Sam Houston's just better this year. But after that game their playoff hopes were already over in the middle of the season. The only really BAD game they had on the season in terms of being able to play respectably came the next week at SFA. But at that point it didn't matter.
They also had perhaps their worst year ever as a FCS in terms of injuries.

Congratulations, Tech for making the playoffs for the first time ever. It was a good season. Let's build on this experience and load up with some good recruiting and bounce back in '12. I just wish the REAL Tech had shown up for this game. Good luck, Central Ark.
