EWU's Baldwin to Weber State?

According to
http://www.footballscoop.com/the-scoop" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, he's interviewing for the job in Ogden. From what I've seen he's making about $100,000 at EWU and would make about $130,000 at Weber State. That's a bit awkward now, just think about how the Eagles players are feeling. Wonder if this is accurate.

guys that have interviewed or that the AD would like to interview
That says it all. Not a chance.

I would be skeptical of this report. Weber has been very tight lipped and I haven't seen or heard anything about any potential hire, only that they want to have someone hired rather quickly.

He's only making 100K as a head fb coach?
Why the fuck would you stay there?
Shit we have assistant coaches making 80k plus
Not only that our women's basketball coach makes 98k...

Because he's from WA. He's also a humble dude... and not in it for the money. If he moves on, it will be to an FBS/BCS program.

Well then he would not want to coach at Montana either. The base is not that much more than $100k, around $130k. Any Griz fans here know?

This is what I was trying to tell the MSU guys. If coach Ash does great this year, you can bet someone who is offering better than MSU will come calling. U of Montana is a stepping stone, and to think Montana has done as well as they have with 4 new coaches in the last 15 years is fantastic.

But Ash is here to stay! (that's what my MSU friends tell me anyways

Certainly a stepping stone in terms of pay, but Wyoming and UNLV? Yikes.

This.
You would think that in the long term, taking a job at a non BCS program that has not been able to support sustained winning would be a risky endeavor. You might be better off as a coordinator at a Pac 12 school than that. Then again, Baldwin doesn't necessarily have an established coaching tree to work off of. He's kind of a wildcat in that regard
(pun intended

)
I wouldn't be surprised if Baldwin is interviewing, he'd be smart to do so. But if he is, I'll bet it's as much about him interviewing the employer and letting Eastern know he's entertaining other offers as anything else. Weber would be a sideways step with not a huge amount of pay increase so unless he felt he could go there and win quickly and had the support to sustain it, I'd be surprised if he took it. Plus, there's the cultural change of living in Utah. But there's obviously more to it than just base salary - perks, assistants pay, etc - so we will see.

Why would Baldwin pick up everything & make a lateral move to Weber when he could wait a year or two for an FBS team to pay him three or four times as much?

The only things I could think of in support of this move would be previous ties to Weber or family in the area. And even that might not be enough if he could snag the Huskies job by sticking in Cheney for a couple more years.

His entire coaching & playing career was at EWU & CWU.

Exactly. He's better off waiting for a bigger FBS offer which will happen if he keeps up his success at EWU. When Kramer left EWU apparently he was making some 50k, so when EWU hired Wulff they doubled the salary. And I'm sure there are bonuses for things like playoffs, which also has to be considered. But, Baldwin would be smart to entertain the idea of going to Weber and let EWU staff know about it if he's looking for a pay increase. I pulled the same thing with my company last year and got a raise out of it while my co-workers got laid off...
Now I'm not trying to start some fights, aside from a possible pay increase I actually would consider Weber a step down from EWU when you factor in having to acclimate yourself with a new team and players with a new coach and stuff. I dont know the specifics of the Weber program but EWU is also looking pretty good right now in terms of support and returning players.
As for going to the Huskies... I wonder if depending on how the Wulff situation plays out at Wazzu if other BCS programs will be a little gunshy of taking another head coach from EWU... But that might not be a bad thing for us EWU fans.

That would certainly make things interesting if he was wanted for and took the Weber spot.

Pullman is even more difficult to win at than Cheney and the challenges are great at both. He's layed some groundwork and I bet whoever takes over goes bowling next year with Wulff's foundation.
Regardless he's a proven winner at the Big Sky level and would be a nice choice for Weber

I don't think coaches in their 60's with no more than FCS experience are in as high a demand as you think.

I'd be surprised if he were interviewing..........I thought Baldwin was making around 125k a year, maybe that's wrong. But that's not really the issue. Baldwin and most of his staff are Washingtonians with very deep ties to the Pacific Northwest. I have a hard time seeing him leave that recruiting base and the situation with his family to make a move to Ogden. If/when he leaves EWU it will be for a much higher profile program than any in the Big Sky, IMO.
I honestly think EWU will do whatever they can to retain Baldwin - they do need to up his pay and try and keep him for the long haul. That's probably the main issue in determining whether or not they'll be able to retain him long-term. All the other factors are basically win/wins for him and the school.

Every Big Sky coaching position is a stepping stone, as is every other conference in the West excepting the Pac 10 or however many, even then there are stepping stone coaching positions there as well. Every coach, whether he openly admits it or not is looking for that next better higher profile and paying job. The more they say they are not, the more you should know they damn sure are too.

according to smjcpa on the Weber board
Baldwin did inquire about the Weber job and did apply. After winning the national championship, Eastern did not offer him a contract extension, bonus or anything else. They acted like it was just another win on the schedule. Since applying for the Weber job, the AD at Eastern did sweeten the pot - so to say - for Baldwin to stay. He has since removed his name from consideration for the Weber State job. Sorry, I won't reveal my source, but I know that the above info is accurate.

According to SDHornet on the Weber board:
Sounds like Baldwin did what any employee at any job would do to leverage higher wage/benefits from their current employer.
