SHSU vs MSU Question

I watched the game and was wondering what others thought... was Sam Houston that good or did the Cats just suck that bad?

I'm thinking it's more of the Cats sucking... they were in slow motion and couldn't tackle if their life depended on it. Luckily Elvis made a catch of a lifetime to have something good out of the game.

Thoughts?

After watching the Brawl, I was lukewarm on the Cats (since I had not watched them play any other games). They looked about the same on saturday, so i'm not sure what to believe.

Were the Cats just not as good as all the hype through-out the season? Or did they kind of "hit the wall" at the end of the year?

My gut tells me it's the latter, as I've heard from several people (who I trust) that earlier in the year, the Cats were a team to be feared.

As to how it all relates to the game this coming Friday....I don't know. I'm just excited for some excellent playoff football, and hope the Griz can keep rollin.

This. All I know is the cats shit the bed, yet again, and cost us the opportunity to beat them down in our place. Moving on... :coffee:

The Cats defense was AWFUL! Ive never seen a defense that was so sloppy as theirs.. SHSU averaged a little over 10 yards a carry.. WTF??? Talk about not being very disciplined. That was a dreadful performance by the Cats on Saturday!

Looks like Griz fans are hoping it was the Cats poor performance. SHSU looked like a darn good team. Lots of good blocking up front. I think this week's game should be a good one. I had SHSU in the finals which was surprising to me even though I picked them. 8-)

So that begs a question I always have had about the Cats. Do they just run a vanilla offense and defense so they do well at the beginning of the year and then fade later? Vanilla so they grasp it early, but not diverse enough to keep improving? It's the only thing I can think of, for I don't get to watch their games, but they seem to do it every year.

It is really hard to say. If anyone beleives that any of the teams left don't deserve to be there, they are crazy. Anyone that is in the semis is good and playing well. You can't stumble in the playoffs and survive past the second round. I still like our chances and I look forward to the BearKats getting JMU'd by us. :thumb:
Spoiler: show
2008 - JMU top seed at home, not punting, still lost.

I think the Cats hit a wall after the loss to the Griz. They eeked one out over a pretty good New Hampshire team, and totally fell a part vs. Sam Houston. Sam Houston will play its toughest game of the season this weekend, as the Griz are the best team they will have played.

I watched that game too. It looked to me that SHSU was just a lot quicker than NDSU.

I do have a comment for the SHSU fans though......Where were you people? THIS IS THE PLAYOFFS for God's sake. Your seats (as few as there are) were half empty. I guarantee you that ODU fans fill the stands in ALL games, much less the playoffs. I'm certain there are other FCS schools that will say the same.

You should be thankful that your team is that good, and get out there and support them (Sorry, I know, It's not my business).

I guess your team didn't care though. They looked pretty awesome. :notworthy:

I think that SHSU is pretty good - I thought when the 'Cats scored to get within 8 in the 2nd half, it would be a game - and then SHSU turned on the afterburners and were physically tougher and clearly much faster.

we'll see Friday - since the Griz look about as good as it gets at the moment.

McGhee had the same confused look on his face that he had in the Griz game
I don't think the cat coaches prepare him for these big games or he panics

I also thought (and I never played - so this may not be an accurate assessment) that we could not run between the tackles - so what did we continue to do? run between the tackles

I am assuming that the speed differential was the reason we didn't run the ball outside a bit more often, at least to get some space for up the middle.

The gameplan and the playcalling were terrible. The only thing worse was the execution.

We had no energy. I don't know if it is conditioning, or coaching that had the team playing with no desire the last few games (aside from the 2nd half of the UNH game). The Griz beatdown sent this team into a tailspin, and we clearly did not recover in time for SHSU. We were exploited.

SHSU had a ton of speed and playmakers, but I feel our coaching and lack of execution were the deciding factors. Good luck the rest of the way SHSU.

I was at the SHSU/MSU game as a fan of neither team - I just like FCS football. It was my opinion that the team speed of Sam eliminated the possibility of MSU running outside. Also, since the MSU QB cannot throw with any accuracy beyond 10-12 yards, that only leaves "running up the middle". I thought that was MSU best shot and it appeared to me that they did not run enough between the tackles.

Cats/SHSU was a repeat of Cats/NDSU...only difference was they threw in the towel about 15 minutes EARLIER this year than last year.
