So what is the "Exposure" advantage of this 3 week thing?

Last year the FCS championship game had to go against the Cotton Bowl. This year it's on at the same time as that Compass Bowl thing and the Compass Bowl is on the main ESPN. Also, though not on at the same time, the NFL playoffs are this weekend.

So how is it that waiting three weeks instead of working it in at somewhere in the 1 to 2 week range confers an "exposure" advantage?

I dont think it really matters what weekend... there will be a conflict with another game. Until ESPN ever covers FCS (which they never will beyond an occasional AP story link), then FCS is doomed to obscurity.

Considering ESPN's website is a front to advertise for their telecasts, you'd think they would do some promoting of the championship games for DI, DII and DIII. Its no wonder the ratings arent higher!

Yeah but my recollection is that the reason given for the three week delay was exposure. I don't buy it. There is no reason to break up the continuity of the tournament by having four rounds in four weeks then waiting three weeks to play the championship game.

NDSU had gotten some good exposure in the Twin Cities, land of 10,000 recruits, via KFAN radio, a column in the Star Tribune, and a brief mention here and there by other Minnesota media.

Three weeks is a benefit to the teams that are competing for the championship. It allows more fans to plan a trip that otherwise wouldn't be able to attend.

Exactly, this is a good setup for traveling fans and it gives the teams a chance to heal up and fully prepare for the game.

I'm sure the NCAA would rather have just a one week bye but with the holiday's going on it wouldn't be easy to schedule it.

I think 2 weeks is better. I think some interest is lost with a 3 week break
