Thinking 9-4.
Losses to UW, UI and some piss-ant team we should beat, like Youngstown or Illinois State. Beat NDSU and everyone else. Win conf again, win first round on the road at Montana State, lose in the second round to SUNY-Binghamton at home.

You're going to be 1-4 after NDSU.

Is UNI hard up for $$$ that they would schedule 2 FBS games? I hope someday UNI can come up to Grand Forks we enjoyed your UNI Dome in 06.

Makes it quite tough to make the playoffs.

Hard up? Meh, depending who you talk too.
The problem is in the state of Iowa there are 3 state regent schools (Drake is a 4th D1 school but they are private so the funding doesn't matter to them). Unlike Wisconsin, Texas, North Carolina, California, New Yorketc... where you see similar set ups there is no Iowa University System, each school is completely separate from the next but is funding and controlled by the same Iowa Board of Regents.
The problem arrises when the BOR divies up state funds, the dispararity of who gets what is amazing. The order of the BOR is:
1. Iowa
.
.
.
2Iowa State.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.3. UNI
Then, last spring*ish* the BOR told UNI that the athletic department had to be completely self suffiencient by 2015, and state funds will dwindle over that time to the UNI athletic department (UNI currently runs about 500k-1m in the red). Their reasoning? Iowa doesn't use state money to run their athletic program, and Iowa State won't need it either. You want to know what make UNI people
and
about that reasoning...Iowa gets something like 20million dollars a year from the B1G Network....Iowa State will be getting about 18million a year from the new B12 deal....You know how much being in the Missouri Valley/Missouri Valley Football Conferences gets UNI? Fucking zero. Of course it's easy to to get off of state funding when you've got that much coming in from revenue from day 1.
Long, 15-20 page thread on PantherNation (could be longer but people got sick of bitching) is that playing 2 FBS games every couple years will make up most of the difference and get UNI in the black as an athletic department, as it will mean men's basketball, football, and volleyball are all making money...I don't know if women's basketball is far off of making money as well.

I hope we make at least 8-3 but it could easily be 7-4 and no playoffs.

We will be in playoffs at 7-4, especially considering two of those losses will likely be Iowa and Wisc.
Next year will be hard to judge, I could see anywhere from 5-8 wins.

Oy. It's tough for a UNI football alum to watch all that happening. I'm not seeing a good outcome in 7-10 years at UNI.

I'm not seeing a good outcome this year -
2 FBS losses
lose at YSU
NDSU probably lose
always choke in Carbondale
8-3 would be major over achieving and every bounce breaking your way
7-4 doable if injuries aren't heavy and your QB grows up fast
6-5 most likely outcome
5-6 could happen if you snooze
4-7 QB doesn't cut it and/or crucial injuries
The last couple of years UNI has been a team that started fast and faded toward the end, could get picked off by a sleeper in the last three weeks...

Massive crowd, or massive announced crowd
Our announced crowds in September are usually dead on. The issues are in October and November when the weather gets shitty around here. I've posted pictures of the 18,500 from this past season against Illinois State:

I think part of that problem was due to the offense relying heavily on a few players whose bread and butter was speed, and perhaps taking advantage of less-disciplined defenses. Might look good at the beginning of the year, but as the seasons progressed, those players got banged up, which negated their speed advantage. And as the defenses gained experience, they gained more discipline (as an overall unit), and also were better able to scout and adjust.
Also, the offensive line seemed questionable at times. And many people questioned the playcalling.
Personally, I have no clue how the 2012 season will turn out for UNI.

... IMO I think they'll go 7-4 and they have the potential to go 9-2. I mean, they play good defense every year and if you play good defense in our league, your gonna end up with a winning record.
