ODU to the C-USA???
Conference USA, which has four schools departing to the Big East next season, is reloading by adding six schools in 2013, industry sources told CBSSports.com.
Florida International, Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Texas San Antonio, Charlotte and Old Dominion will join C-USA giving the league 14 members. However, it's not clear how soon after 2013 Charlotte, which is beginning its football program in 2013, and ODU, currently in the FCS, would be able to compete as a C-USA football member.
An official announcement could come as early as Friday, sources said.

Re: ODU to the C-USA???
Any chance of that actually happening? I know you following this stuff closely. I assume MWC wants to stay at 10 for a year or two to see what Boise and SDSU do. But of they don't come back and/or AF leaves then I could see MWC wanting back in Texas. Or would they try to grab utep? So many scenarios.Fresno St. Alum wrote:Well at least they left Texas St. for us when AFA goes to the BE.
MWC could be our fourth conference in four years.

Re: ODU to the C-USA???
I don't think UTEP will come alone. You are our only option for Texas. If AFA leaves or if they say no and we leave, I think you're next. Either way we need a baseball team. MWC would be down to 5. That leaves only Texas St. and NMSU. UNM doesn't want NMSU in the same conf. Advantage Texas St., plus you're better at baseball, and at worst would be NMSU in fb. you get us Tx recruiting. It would be utterly stupid to pass on you when AFA leaves. We could go to 12 too. No way do I see you left out of that either.slycat wrote:Any chance of that actually happening? Re: ODU to the C-USA???
I would like an invite as I have traditionally followed western teams closer. When is AFA expected to move? I would think at least 2014 season. Texas St could be like a mini TCU hopping all around.Fresno St. Alum wrote:I don't think UTEP will come alone. You are our only option for Texas. BE has to announce by summer of 2014 so the school can give 1 year notice. Navy begins play in th BE in 2015.slycat wrote:I would like an invite as I have traditionally followed western teams closer. See ya ODU.
That's a nice geographic league, especially with the bastardizations of geography by a lot of other conferences lately. When completed, Conference USA's new 14-team league is expected to be split into two divisions: East - East Carolina, FIU, Marshall, Southern Miss, UAB, Charlotte and ODU; West - Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Rice, Texas San Antonio, Tulane, Tulsa and UTEP.

We must be headed for a NCAA tournament style football bowl championship. These "conferences" just keep getting larger....as do the television dollars.

Re: ODU to the C-USA???
Hell, Charlotte doesn't even have a stadium yet, much less even fielded a team. I was looking forward to kicking the crap out of them at the FCS level, not having them look down upon us while we crush them at their place.89Hen wrote:I guess this was your secret meeting. For ODU, hate to see ya go, but you've at least demonstrated a solid fan base and tremendous improvement in a tough conference since your inception. Best of luck.

Re: ODU to the C-USA???
I really wanted ODU to win a National Championship before heading out the door, but things don't always work out as planned. The FCS is fun as hell though and has that rare feeling of community that's missing in American sports these days. Sure it's not as large as the FBS, but the division is much more intimate as a result. Anyways, if this moves happen, it was an awesome helluva experience at this level; I'll always defend the FCS on FBS boards.ASUG8 wrote:For ODU, hate to see ya go, but you've at least demonstrated a solid fan base and tremendous improvement in a tough conference since your inception. Re: ODU to the C-USA???
Not so sure Texas St. would be overly willing to dump their new Sun Belt home for the MWC until they know what's up with the merger/alliance. The TV deal will likely be a bit better for the MWC than SB, but there is stability in the SB once Texas St. and UT-Arlington officially join. Will be interesting to see if they'd risk a stable home for a rocky one in the MWC if Air Force does leave for the BE. Of course, AF might need a non-football home since the WAC could be over and the WCC hasn't bent over backwards for them just yet. WCC and MVC attmept #2 would need to be lined up.Fresno St. Alum wrote:Well at least they left Texas St. for us when AFA goes to the BE.

Re: ODU to the C-USA???
Throw the C-USA teams in the hopper with the Sunbelt teams and then divide them up into two conferences and you could have conferences that make some geographical sense.dbackjon wrote:89Hen wrote:See ya ODU.

Its roughly the 25th largest media market in the US and the 4th largest without a FBS team.LynchburgFlamesFan wrote:Can someone help me understand why Charlotte is attractive?
Its all about media market size and revenue potential. That's the only plausible reason why JMU and App State are on the outside looking in still.
