The Big Sky Conference, where Weber State resides, is working on a new brand of its own to represent its identity as expands in July from a nine-team conference to 11 in all sports and 13 in football. The logo is likely to be unveiled around the league’s football media days in Park City on July 15-17.
Weber State athletics director Jerry Bovee says it’s time for the school to update its athletic identity, though it won’t be a complete overhaul. The school will release its new branding effort on May 18.

The most significant change will be to move the wildcat mark off the purple shield and to make it more three-dimensional.
Another wildcat at Weber State will be getting a new look as well — Waldo the mascot.

Waldo will become a more athletic mascot “like the Jazz Bear,” Bovee said, he can engage more fans at the games and downtown.

Define "no ones." You can't prove that by yourself.

:ohno:
For several years now I have been working on an elaborate oil painting done in the Renaissance portraiture style using multiple layers of pigment and painted with brushes accurate to that era, which is to say they are made of fur taken from the dessicated corpses of baby red squirrels. The subject of my painting is based on a Polaroid photo I once took on vacation to Ober Gatlinburg depicting a man who may or may not be Peter Scolari sitting at a table outside of the mini-golf and eating a chalupa. The size of the overall work is quite expansive and, currently, takes up every inch of the interior wallspace of a standard two-car garage. When finished, I am absolutely certain that the completed work will unquestionably revolutionize both art and artists as we know them as well as the common perception of the entire medium throughout history. The Mona Lisa and similar works will finally be regarded for what they really are which, of course, is the 16th-century equivalent of a collection of mugshots. This will be my life's work -- my magnum opus, if you will -- and it will be that amazing.

It's not done though. So far it has a really nice frame.

I thought we were just dogging the griz since Willie is a griz fan and would make the new logo griz colors. Hence the pink and gray.

The Weber State University Athletic Department introduced a new look Friday, creating a fresher, more marketable logo as part of a re-branding effort for Wildcat Athletics.

Weber State Athletics brought together a committee from various areas of the WSU campus and community to come up with a new look, which will benefit all 16 NCAA athletic programs and will create unity across the department and university.

“We are excited about this new logo and new look for Wildcat Athletics,” said WSU Director of Athletics Jerry Bovee. “This new approach gives us greater flexibility in branding Weber State Athletics in a variety of different platforms. This is a fresher, more marketable look that will assist us to create consistency in marketing Wildcat Athletics.”

The re-branding campaign includes a primary mark with secondary marks and new word marks. The primary logo features the Wildcat head with a new look color scheme, featuring a darker purple as well as gray and white. Other secondary marks include the Cathead with paws and the paw alone. Other custom word marks add to the flexibility of usage.

New standards for proper usage of the logo have also been implemented with the help of WSU University Communications and WSU Campus Stores.

The shield has been dropped from the primary mark offering others options both digitally and in creating new apparel.

“The idea was to keep the same basic Wildcat while updating the look in an effort to give options with color and different backgrounds,” Bovee said. “This will allow for the use of different color schemes in connection with the new logo.”

The athletic department plans to begin using the new logo immediately in digital form and on uniforms that were planned to be replaced this season and will transition to the new look over time as facility upgrades occur. Fans will begin to see the new look on apparel soon at the Weber State Campus Stores and retail outlets carrying WSU apparel.

“Weber State Campus Stores is proud to partner with Weber State Athletics in this new re-branding effort,” said Brad Beazer, Assistant Director of Retail Operations for Campus Stores. “This is an exciting new logo and branding effort and we’re happy to be a part of it and look forward to supplying new Wildcat Athletics merchandise.”

I don't like it. Then again, I like something a little more intimidating, at least less friendly, looking.
