Growler1 expresses legitimate concerns over the the future of Grizzly Football in his thread. He states that he hopes his concerns are unfounded and I would echo that opinion. All of the concerns brought forth (loss of key coaches, amount of seniors graduated, unknown QB situation) are very real. Growler’s thread include his opinion of a few year downturn and other posters state similar sentiments.

These areas of concern also have me concerned however I would like to offer a slightly sugar-laden but what I’d call a more hopeful outlook for the state of Grizzly Football.

Think back to the 2007 off-season, the Grizzlies suffered a crushing 1st round loss and the graduation of what many believed (at the time) one of the most talented overall group of players the team has had. Most all of the defense plus our workhorse running back (Hilliard) was gone. Add in that our two most hopeful players to fill gaps (Jamaine Olsen & Lyle Brown) both transferred out in the off-season. A few key things helped rebound the team:

What we REALLY need is a 6 page long, 138 post thread about whether or not JJ will be back next year that contains shockingly little information about whether, in actuality, JJ will be back next year. :ohno:

Worst fucking thread of all time. I made a comment like that 5 pages in, and STILL made the mistake of going through page 6 today hoping it actually had anything in it. Instead it just Griz and Cats fans going back and forth about some stupid ass track shit. Or maybe that was some other worthless thread

egriz is like a car wreck sometimes. You know you don't really want to look and see the decapitated head sitting on the shoulder of the road but, damn it, you just can't help it.

Montana usually just reloads and I think they're always a threat to any team in the conference. However, they're going to have to over come lots of issues. The coach and AD, rape, etc., is tough enough to handle and then you lose 9 starters from a good defense and your defensive coordinator. I think this upcoming year will be a "down" season for the Griz, maybe finishing 3rd or 4th. Then they'll be back in contention in a year or two.

The 9 "starters" stat is misleading. Harris, Hermanson, Tripp and Kanangat'ta are all returning starters. I suppose Tully technically is too

But I think losing Breske will hurt the most. Great coach.

Very possibly...

I think we'll be fine... as long as Johnson is back. If McKinney or Shay is our QB, all bets are off

...no disrespect to either of them (I think McKinney is going to be a hell of a player when he's our starter in 2 years), but obviously anyone is going to be a downgrade from JJ at this point

This is what worries me the most too. Breske was a good coach, but I think Gregorak will be just fine. And, yeah, technically we lost a lot of starters on defense, but a lot of underclassmen also played a lot of downs on D last year and getting Tripp back from injury will be a big plus. Hermanson is a future Big SKY defensive POY candidate.

The thing about the JJ situation that makes me believe he will be back is Nate Montana. Why in the world would Nate transfer if there was any inkling that JJ was going to leave? I'm not so sure SH or Mckinney have shown enough just yet to automatically be ahead of Montana in the depth chart. I think IF JJ were to leave, Nate would've had a very good shot at being the starter, at least at the beginning of the season. Of course, there's Kemp too, but I think he's better suited at WR. As athletic as he is, he needs to be on the field, but he doesn't have the arm that JJ or Montana (or SH or Mckinney) do.

Obviously the jury will be out on this years team but I am very optimistic. I think Delaney is going to surprise alot of people and the kids are going to respond beyond expectations. The word is that we should know this week if JJ is staying with the team. Not even Coach D knows until the results of the code of conduct hearing are released. Of course the county attorney could file charges anytime (assuming there is probable cause) and then the code of conduct ruling would be meaningless.

Any other QB will struggle mightely this season especially early in the season. I think you would see a heavy dose of running game with either QB. But that isn't all bad. We have all the RBs back.

I like our new O and D coordinators and have high expectations of them also. Over all, I anticipate another good season for the Griz. Am I predicting a championship? Of course not. This will be a whole new BSC with the addition of so many teams. It should be exciting!
