With almost same name, mixup in the polls..and now Championship Banners??

The UND athletics department Wednesday received the NCAA championship banner intended for North Dakota State University for winning the 2011 NCAA FCS football championship.

I am really confused now. I guess the retired nickname thing means that we can start calling NDSU the Sues from now on??

That's about as intelligent as getting Ohio State University and Ohio University mixed up.

This isn't the first time something like that has happened.

During UOP's three-year run to the NCAA Tournament back in the mid-2000's, Pacific University of Forest Grove, OR (a D-III school, no less) got congratulatory calls. THIS sword cuts both ways, though. UOP got congratulatory calls when Pac U resurrected their long-dormant football program.

The NCAA was so used to sending UND Division 1 National Championship banners (7 in hockey) that they only had UND's mailing address handy. NCAA probably said " NDSU...are they DI?"

The last hockey banner for UND was 12 years ago. The nickname is the only thing that has Grand Forks on the NCAA radar.

Sending the banner to the wrong schools does add credence to UND receiving votes in some of the football polls. If the governing body can't tell the difference, how are the coach's and Ad's going to know.

I didn't think that had banners for club hockey?? How did NDSU do last season?

And here NDSU fans thought they were so far ahead of UND. I guess with UND getting ranked and now getting a Championship banner....they are on the same page.
