Pretty cool system. StonyBrook is ahead of Tulane, Memphis and Akron at 154. What it all means , who knows.

1. NDSU (61)
2. UNI (86)
3. MONTANA (94)
4. SAM HOUSTON STATE (101)
5. GEORGIA SOUTHERN (105)
6. YOUNGSTOWN STATE (107)
7. ILLINOIS STATE (108)
8. INDIANA STATE (114)
9. SOUTHERN UTAH (116)

A total of FIVE Missouri Valley Football Conference teams are in the top 8 of the Massey Preseason Computer rankings.... No mention of any CAA team on that list. Perhaps a new king is emerging in FCS football?!

I think Montana is grossly overrated (what with all we've been through this year), and we should probably be below UNI anyways, but how the hell is UNI the #2 team in FCS? Not trying to smack or anything, but what exactly do they have that makes them better than SHSU, GSU, or Montana State?
Seriously, if there's something I don't know about, let me know. Nothing screamed "this team is really good and will be AMAZING next year!" watching them play us last year.

Are we sure these are new?
They look exactly like what I would expect from the end of last year.

All the team schedules are for 2012, so I assume they're talking about this year.

Yeah, but they could just be the same rankings from the end of last year (I can't find archived FCS rankings on that site to verify).

YSU finished 6-5 last year... no way did we finish #6 out of FCS teams last year. I do believe we could end up being #6 at years end this season though!

Dude.. This is JUST a strength of schedule poll. Thats it. It doesnt mean Montana is ranked number 3 in the FCS or UNI is number 2. It just shows the quality of a teams opponents.

Take this poll anyway you want to. They have UND towards the bottom middle of the BSC. Which is fine, I am not going to stress over it or go kick the dog. Its just something to look at and talk about until August 30th comes around and we can get down to some real polls, and ratings. Anything prior to the season means nothing...its what you do during the season that counts.

Link isn't working for me but I don't see how this could be a SOS poll. UNI and NDSU play in the same conference so their schedule is pretty much the same except for location and OOC games. OOC, NDSU plays Robert Morris, Colorado State & Prairie View A&M. OOC, UNI plays Wisconsin, Central State University & Iowa. I don't think Central State and location differences are enough of an anchor to bring down Wisconsin & Iowa so UNI's schedule is more difficult.
With that said, SHSU, GSU and a number of other programs have fewer question marks going into this season and should be rated above UNI.

Dec. 9, 2011; Montana 48; UNI 10. Men against boys. Shouldn't that tell you this is not about the end of last year?

Any guess as to why Cal Poly seems to be doing so much better in computer rankings (Massey Sagarin) vs human (Lindsays etc.)?

Because these things are silly - good for a discussion and that's about it.
Also, it's pretty obvious these were almost entirely based off of how the teams finished last season.

Really? Then why would a 6-5 SUU team be in the top 10?

That is where UND should start out this season. They have proved nothing in the BSC. Montana-Montana State-EWU-Cal Poly are better teams...that puts you in the middle of the pack....right?
Now, maybe UND will kick a** and win the conference or fall flat on their face and finish in the bottom of the league....who knows?

What does "They have UND towards the bottom middle of the BSC. Which is fine, I am not going to stress over it or go kick the dog" didn't you get. I am fine with UND in the middle of the pack. I wouldn't put them at the top nor would I put UND at the bottom with UNC and ISU. UND has a lot to prove and after this season we can see where we lie in the conference. Top, middle, bottom. I guess in 3 months or so we will see.
