- NConf Record: 7-6
Overall: 7-6
vs. FCS: 2-0
Overall: 2-0
Best Performance: (#12) Eastern Washington 20, (FBS) Idaho 3 - Kyle Padron completes just 39% of his passes in his FCS debut, but the Eagle defense makes that irrelevant by holding the anemic Vandals to 237 yards.
Worst Performance: Idaho 3, … - Wait, you're saying Idaho isn't a Big Sky team? Really!? They play at a HIGHER level!? That can't really be true. Can we get a fact-checker to look into this, please?
- At any rate, would it be piling on to note that Idaho is just 10-7 against the Big Sky since moving up?
Most Surprising Result: Northern Arizona 6, (FBS) Arizona St. 63 - The 'Jacks seemingly had a chance to knock off a depleted Sun Devil team going in, but some bad defense & untimely injuries destroyed that idea in a hurry.

Worst Performance: Lamar 0, (FBS) Louisiana-Lafayette 40 - Cardinals still get blown out despite the Cajuns only showing up to play for a half.
Most Surprising Result: McNeese St. 27, (FBS) Middle Tennessee St. 21 - Obviously this wasn't too shocking a result, but it's worth noting that the Cowboys are now 3-0 versus the Sun Belt.

Best Performance: (#9) Northern Iowa 21, (FBS) Wisconsin 26 - Some long connections between Sawyer Kollmorgen & David Johnson nearly turned a respectable smothering into an unthinkable upset.
Worst Performance: Southern Illinois 28, Eastern Illinois 49 - The Salukis make Janeane Garofalo—no, sorry, that's Jimmy Garoppolo—look like Dave Dickenson.
Most Surprising Result: (#9) Northern Iowa 21, (FBS) Wisconsin 26 - Another year, another heartbreaking FBS loss for the Panthers.

Worst Performance: Austin Peay 10, (FBS) Western Kentucky 49 - The Governors are outgained 596-154 by a Hilltopper team who graduated by far their best player from last season (Bobby Rainey).
Most Surprising Result: Eastern Illinois 49, Southern Illinois 28 - Jimmy Garoppolo throws for 369 yards and 5 touchdowns (0 turnovers) to give new coach Dino Babers a surprising debut win.

Best Performance: (#16) Lehigh 27, Monmouth 17 - Ryan Spadola picks up where he left off (before the silly quarterfinal suspension) by catching 9 balls for 111 yards.
Worst Performance: Colgate 23, Albany 40 - The Raiders put up 440 yards, but still lose to Albany for the first time ever in convincing fashion.
Most Surprising Result: Holy Cross 17, (#14) New Hampshire 38 - Apparently I was overrating the Crusaders, because I expected this game to be much closer.
Tomorrow: the rest of the playoff conferences.

Always good MV.
My biggest surprise was how easily YSU handled Pitt. I expected UNI to do well against the Badgers. UNI defense is good against the run and Wisconsin had 14 new starters plus Ball had missed some time due to an assault. Cal Poly was a kicker away from beating Wisconsin a couple years ago. UNI found a weakness in the Wisconsin defense, going at a guy that had off-season surgery and hamstring issues in fall practice. Still a great performance by UNI, but the Mighty Penguins I thought had a better performance.

I would argue YSU deserved either best performance or most surprising performance. I was not surprised they won, I was surprised how dominant they were.

Thanks.
I was 50/50 on that decision, but I thought nearly beating a #12 FBS team was a tiny bit more impressive & unusual than a 14-point win over an average-at-best FBS team (which is about the equivalent of beating an FCS top-10 or so).
I also wasn't shocked that YSU beat Pitt (I thought that game would be close) while I also figured UNI would drop a bit from last year after losing Rennie, so that near upset was a bit more surprising to me.

I know Georgia State is still technically in the CAA this year, but I'm counting them as FBS and as a non-conference opponent for CAA teams (same as UMass last season).

ODU also trailed Duquesne by 10 at the half. And UNH's win was on the road.

Yeah, and JMU put up 602 on another NEC team. If JMU didn't start pulling starters in the 3rd, would have surpassed ODU's 723. JMU's starting defense had yielded 72 yards till about 2/3 rd of the way through 3rd qtr when inserted a mix of 2nd and 3rd string on defense and later all 3rd string (SFU ended with 155 yds).

I'm curious, where do you come up with your stuff? How was Lehigh a "best" performance? They only led Monmouth, a sub .500 team, at home, by 4 points for pretty much the entire 4th quarter - Monmouth scored the TD to make it 21-17 with about 3 minutes to go in the 3rd. And then Monmouth got deep into Lehigh territory with less than a minute to go before throwing an INT, and even then, Lehigh couldn't run out the clock, had to punt it back to Monmouth, and then Monmouth eventually fumbled the ball on a multi-lateral play with Lehigh picking the ball up and running it in for a TD, making the score look somewhat respectable if one wasn't aware of the actual details. Sure Spadola had a great game, but Lehigh's offense was anemic outside of him (he had half of the receiving yards and Lehigh was outgained on the ground in that game). Plenty of holes still unfilled from all those departing seniors from last year.

Lehigh might not have been a great performance, but who had a better performance in the Patriot League?
Colgate got blown out.
Fordham beat a crappy DII team.
Holy Cross got blown out.
Georgetown beat a bad PFL team.

That was kinda my point - it didn't come across that Lehigh backdoored into the "best performance" award.

So it's just a label thing? And a label they don't even have yet? Georgia State will be winless this year in the CAA and I think getting to within double digits with anyone in conference will be a success. West Chester is a 3 point favorite against Georgia State right now.

Yep. Beating Monmouth isn't great (& I think Lehigh is grossly overrated), but beating them is still better than beating Lock Haven or Davidson.
