Ranked sixth in this week’s Sports Network NCAA Football Championship Subdivision Top 25 poll, Eastern enters the game 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the Big Sky Conference, with its lone loss a narrow 24-20 setback at Washington State on Sept. 8. The Bobcats, ranked second behind defending NCAA Division I champion North Dakota State, are a perfect 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the league.
“This game is huge -- I can’t wait,” said Eastern head coach Beau Baldwin following last week’s 55-17 romp over North Dakota. “I love these big games, and our players do too. We’ll enjoy the North Dakota win for a day, but believe me, I’m already thinking about Montana State because they are the real deal. They are a great team and we know that, but it’s going to be an exciting opportunity for our program.”
Two years ago, Eastern fell to 2-2 when 17th-ranked Montana State out-scored ninth-ranked EWU 10-0 in the second half in a 30-7 win, and out-gained EWU in total offense 439-382. However, EWU would go on to win its next 11 games and bring home the NCAA Division I title.
In the rematch last year between the No. 4 Bobcats and No. 21 Eagles, Montana State out-scored Eastern 26-7 over the final 35:08 of the game for a 36-21 win and drop EWU to 0-4 on the season. The offensive battle was won by MSU 416-371, but again, the Eagles responded well from that loss to win six of their next seven games and finish the season 6-5.
Prior to the last two losses, the Eagles have dominated the all-time series with MSU, winning 25 of the first 33 meetings. Eastern’s seven-game winning streak in the series was snapped in 2010.
But for Eastern to reverse the recent trend, it will have to find a way to stop Bobcat quarterback DeNarius McGee. Of the 855 yards MSU has accumulated the last two years, he has accounted for 545 of them. In 2010, he was 15-of-24 passing for 283 yards, and added 24 rushing. He was just 12-of-26 for 161 yards a year ago, but also rushed for 77 yards.
McGhee is 10th in FCS in total offense, averaging 288.3 yards per game, and as a team the Bobcats are 19th (433.8). Eastern, meanwhile, is 16th in total offense (448.6), providing a match-up Saturday of two of the top 20 offenses in FCS. The Eagles rushed for 290 yards in last week’s win over North Dakota, but EWU will be tested by a Bobcat defense which is seventh in FCS in rushing defense (70.8).

Purple and gold? Indeed. And blue is a just a darker shade of purple. Good observation.

If this game was in Cheney I'd pick EWU but we just play different at home. I'll take the Cats by 4.
Our D-line will be too much for your frosh QB.

Yeah, uh huh.
He'll just tuck and run for 10-20.

He didn't have much trouble with our D-Line, which I'll take over MSU's any day.

Just listened to our coaches show. MSU is something like 53% on third down conversions.
That's a double sided statistic if I ever saw one.
If Adams take care of the ball, I like our chances...even on the road.
Special teams may be the difference. Unless MSU still has that really good kicker. Then...I don't know.

This game should be a real hoot!
The only question I have about it is who, on the Bobcat defense, will be able to successfully cover/defend Brandon Kaufman??

Cunningham graduated last year. Punting and placekicking is done by Rory Perez; he's been the punter the past two seasons. He also kicked in high school, and Coach Ash said he was recruited to take over for Cunningham when he left. So far this year Rory is 6-6 on field goal attempts with a long of I beleive 45 yards. 22 of 23 on extra points. If I remember, the only block was his very first kick of the year. He was suspended the first game of the year and the kicking looked shakey at best. Since the second game of the year, he's been surprisingly a high point of the team. Very reliable. Kick offs are handled by our only true freshman on the roster, AJ Silva.

Who gets ranked where within conference is getting really close up at the top, as JALMOND said. EWU has a FBS win, a VERY close B(C)$ loss, and a blowout over a tough (but fading) newcomer. MSU is undefeated, but barely handled non-schollie Drake and weak (but developing) newcomer UC Davis. Plus, MSU's schedule is greatly weakened by the presence of a D-II (though admittedly, they really didn't have much of a choice there short of taking some FBS teams, who would understandably be scared of a team that only recently beat Minnesota). Currently, I have MSU out front, but it won't take much for me to jump EWU over them.

So...From what I have read so far.
1.The Cats D-Line has One good player and the rest suck
2.The Cats can't cover anyone and will get torched.
3.The Cats have yet to beat anyone that is worth a crap, so they suck.
So, if the Cats win, do the Eagles really suck?
If the Eagles win, does that make the Cats the worst team in the big sky?
I am looking forward to this game, after this week we will know exactly who no-one really is.

I only watched the 4th Q of the EWU-Griz game, but from what I saw of the Cats on Saturday, I'll take EWU on the road in a tight one...4-7 points. If the Aggies could have contained MSU QB, Davis would have won by 10. The MSU QB made play after play to rescue the ats, but I think EWU defense does a better job containing the we did and their offense is much more consistent. Should be a good one.
