He is only a true soph in terms of eligibility, but he is at least 3 years removed from HS. Age wise he is the age of a 4th yr player, as he turns 22 in Jan. He originally was a Clempson signee. Not sure what happened there, but he did a PG yr at FUMA for a season before then signing with TU.
Are you talking about West? He was a UMD/Friegon signee. Fridge got fired and West had no where to go with Edsall coming in. West is from Baltimore, literally 15 minutes from campus. That's how he ended up at Towson.
The commentators at either NBC Sports need to get their facts straight, because it was either the W&M @ TU or the TU @ JMU game, can't remember which (both were on NBC Sports) where one of them stated that West originally committed to Clemson. I specifically remembered them saying that, because it was something I hadn't heard before.
Anyway, this article from last yr said it was low SAT scores on why he didn't go to the Twerps:
"....West can't wait for a chance to play the Terps. Through his junior year in high school, West thought he would wind up playing in College Park. But low SAT scores derailed those plans....."

Another article I saw said he had to sit out a yr after FUMA before going to Towson, something to do with the NCAA. Anyway, that would explain him turning 21 last yr during "true" fr yr at TU.
It wouldn't be unprecedented for a I-AA back to declare early for the pros. EWU's All American Taiwan Jones did in 2010. He was hurt during their semi final win over Villanova and NC win over UD. He was a junior, but he was also 21 when he declared. Got drafted in the 4th round by the Raiders.
I expect if he stays healthy West will at a minimum be in an NFL camp, if not drafted, be it next yr or in 2014. I'd be surprised if he was at TU for his Sr yr in 2014 & taking a shot at the NFL in 2015, when he would be 24 yrs old.
