Big Sky Predictions 11-3

The first weekend in November and everyone is jockeying for position. Also, this is when weather starts to figure into games as well as the snow starts to fly in the higher reaches of the conference. Currently I'm at 55-16 for the year and still am looking for that perfect weekend. Here are my predictions for this weekend. Sorry for being late, I had to watch Damian Lillard's first Blazer game.
CP at EWU---So much for the marquee game. After last weekend, both teams need this win. The Mustangs have their triple option attack and the Eagles have their strong passing. Who wants it more...EWU 31, CP 26.
UM at WSU---Both teams reeling but the Wildcats finally got a win in their last game, on the road at Southern Utah. For the Grizzlies, this has been a season to forget. Maybe time to start over...WSU 26, UM 23.
MSU at Sac St---The Bobcats got a big win last week at home over North Dakota while the Hornets also got a big win at home over Cal Poly. The Bobcats have appeared to be vulnerable at times, and the Hornets have been shaky as well. Another toss up...Sac St 28, MSU 26.
NAU at ISU---The Lumberjacks have fallen victim to slowdown tactics in their last two games while the Bengals have just fallen (and can't get up). The Lumberjacks should get it going here...NAU 49, ISU 17.
UNC at PSU---The Vikings are hoping that the Bears have forgotten about last year's game in Greeley. The Bears do remember and hope to get the win this time around. But this is this year...PSU 24, UNC 20.
SUU at UND---A big game for two former rivals from the Great West. The Thunderbirds beat Eastern Washington last week at home while the Dakotans got thumped by Montana State. Who wants this game...UND 38, SUU 35.

I'm going to laugh if you only get one right this week.

EWU
406
Sac
NAU (ugly rout)
PSU (there's no way a team that put 77 on ISU only puts up 24 on UNC...)
UND (a rout)
And after all that, the polls (other than the intelligent CS poll) STILL keep Sac out....

With essentially 4 toss up games this week, I expected us to have fairly different picks, but we're almost dead on... I have SUU pulling it out.
SUU 41 @ 34 UND
UM 29 @
31 WSU
UNC 20 @
33 PSU
CP 38 @
42 EWU
NAU 55 @ 17 ISU
MSU 30 @
34 SAC

CP at EWU - 35-31. Should be a close one. I think CP can control the tempo and the clock behind their running game.
UM at WSU - 24-20. Probably would have went with the griz if they didn't shit themselves off of the field again.
MSU at Sac St - 34-28. Wouldn't be able to live with myself if I picked against the Hornets. We need a perfect game to pull off the upset though. Hornet D needs to step up and the offense needs to take care of the ball.
NAU at ISU - 38-14. This shouldn't even be close. If NAU struggles in this one they might have some problems against better competition.
UNC at PSU - 31-17. UNC's defense looks to be holding that team together but PSU finally got their offense rolling last week. I think the Vikings keep on truckin'.
SUU at UND - 30-28. Interesting game. UND's defense has been suspect all season long and now a hot Sorensen gets to face them. However I think UND keeps it close.

Is UNC really THAT much better than ISU, SD? This same PSU squad utterly destroyed the Bungles 77-10 earlier this year....

UNC has been competitive in a few games, that alone makes them a lot better than ISU.

There is no way we can score 70+ points on anyone, nor beat anyone by 60+ points. We were aided by the fact that the Bengals stopped playing halfway through the second quarter. That game did not really happen and I am still waiting for the Bengal athletic department to refund my money.

Cal Poly 24-31 EWU - My gut says EWU's run defense is better than CP's pass defense
NoCo 21-35 Portland St. — The Bears have looked better lately, but they won't win two straight in Portland
Montana St. 35-27 Sac State — It won't be easy yet again, but the Bobcats will win #4 in a row in Sacto
NAU 49-24 Idaho St. — NAU's recently lackluster offense receives the gift of perfect timing
Montana 30-24 Weber — The Griz usually struggle in Ogden, but I think their run D will make the difference
Suutah 28-38 NoDak — The T-Bird running game is too weak to win in the Alerus Center

Southern Utah @ North Dakota (Southern Utah suffers from Big Win syndrome for the 2nd time in 4 weeks)
Northern Colorado @ Portland State (Northern Colorado is competetive for about a qrt, then PSU runs away with it).
Cal Poly @ Eastern Washington (In an OOC game......Eastern's ability to throw the ball well lifts them over Cal Poly.......barely)
Montana @ Weber State (Montana has not played well in Ogden since 04, and now losing 4 players, 3 of them starters and more distractions wont help them this year. Weber wins 3rd game in a row in Ogden)
Montana State @ Sacramento State (UPSET ALERT)
Northern Arizona @ Idaho State (Jacks run wild, blow the hapless Bengals out of thier own Dome)

If everyone is picking Sac, is it really an upset alert?

My Picks
SUU @
UND
UM @ WSU
UNC @
PSU
CP @
EWU
NAU @ ISU
MSU @ Sac
Now many of these can go either way..... I've honestly not felt so unsure of my picks all year. I want Cal Poly to beat EWU but I'm sticking to my opinion that EWU is the best team in the conference....which brings me to MSU....I think most folks have shown them a bit too much love in polls....ironically I think they take this one because Sac has had such an emotional few weeks. They played their hearts out last weekend and I just see a post big win let down. Had they lost to Cal Poly last Saturday Id be picking Sac....
The bottom line is that there will be two losses amongst EWU, MSU, Cal Poly and Sac....those plus NAU are the most likely BSC playoff teams......another loss and Sac is probably out....EWU could be out with one more. Cal Poly and MSU would probably have to win out to stay in the hunt if they lose this Saturday.
Every week is big but this week seems huge

EWU would be in the playoffs at 8-3. Guaranteed.

Jeeze SE.... I also said they were the best team in the conference and picked them against my own team?!?
I think EWU belongs in the playoffs regardless of what happens this weekend but we don't pick at large teams. Just like Cal Poly, EWU does not want to lose this game. Whether you agree or not an 8-3 EWU is not a lock...What happens if Cal Poly wins and Sac Wins? Let's say Cal Poly finishes at 10-1, NAU at 9-2, MSU at 9-2 and Sac at 8-3 (and on a win steak). Would you still guarantee EWU gets in?....I'd say they would but I don't vote and and something tells me it will be very hard for the BSC to have 4 teams get it ...5 would be almost unbelievable.
If Cal Poly was to lose to EWU, beat ISU and lose to NAU they'd be 8-3.... would they still get in? I'm not sure?

You picking EWU and thinking EWU is a good team has nothing to do with the statement I responded to. I wasn't trying to be a dick, I'm just saying that I'm very confident that an 8-3 EWU would get in regardless, and here's why.
-We've been ranked all year, in top 12 I believe.
-We've played an all DI schedule, which has also been one of the most difficult in the nation.
-We have an FBS win. Granted it's Idaho, but 17 point wins over an FBS... brownie points.
-Wins over (at the time) ranked UM and MSU.
-Tradition of recent success in the playoffs.
-CAA got 5 teams in 2007, in a smaller conference than the current Big Sky, because they were all highly ranked and had records worthy of it; UMass 9-2, Richmond 9-2, Delaware 8-3, JMU 8-3, and UNH 7-4. That's also with a 16 team field.
Regarding your hypothetical for CP finishing 8-3... I wouldn't be as sure because CP's schedule is weaker than EWU's would be at 8-3 because you have ISU, UNC, and San Diego. I still think CP would probably get in because of the FBS win and all DI schedule.

ECB at its finest. No way I see them giving the BSC 5 spots.

With the records CPAlum had in his hypothetical, they would have to; they're better than that of CAA circa 2007, not to mention 4 of the BSC teams have an FBS win.

Those are all fair points SE....as I said I agree that they should be in if 8-3 I'm just not sure they would be...we will just have to watch and see.
Hope to see Cal Poly head to Cheney, beat EWU and test your hypotheses

I'm thinking Poly will need to beat either EWU or NAU to get in. They will need that win, otherwise their best FCS win would be UND on the road. Without the EWU or NAU win I can't see them going to the playoffs.
Also without one of those wins, they would only have a home win over Idaho State in their last four games. Not a good way to try to impress the committee.
