Villanova @ Stony Brook

Here, what are probably the two best teams in the first round (though SDSU may have an argument) square off with a trip to Bozeman on the line. They are also very similar and the stat rankings are close pretty much across the board. I'm gonna give Stony Brook the edge, though, for 3 reasons: they're at home, Villanova's young, and the Seawolves have an insane redzone TD margin—39 TDs (83%) on offense compared to just 10 TDs allowed (45%) on defense.
Here's my assessment of the matchups & my pick for the game:
- Quarterbacks -- Villanova
Running Backs - Stony Brook
Receivers/TEs - Stony Brook
Offensive Line - Stony Brook
Defensive Line - (push)
Linebackers --- Villanova
Secondary ---- Villanova
Kicking ------ Stony Brook
Punting ------ Villanova
Return Teams - Villanova
Kickoffs ------ Stony Brook
- Villanova 20-28 Stony Brook

I would give a slight edge to Villanova on the basis of experience.

Kyle Essington is likely out for SBU. He's leading the nationin pass efficiency. This will hurt SBU.

Hopefully when Negron starts tomorrow he has the same magic Essington did last year. Remember Mike Coulter went down in the Buffalo game and Essington led us to back winning seasons and an FBS win. Just have to keep the Villanove offense off the field as much as possible.

The team is mostly sophmores and freshmen. This will be the first playoff experience for them. Their offense should put up points, but the question is the defense. Should be a good game nonetheless!

The Seawolves don't throw much (about 17 times a game, that's not a whole lot more than Cal Poly). It won't hurt them as much as it would hurt a lot of other teams.

Stony Brook has a good team this year. This is interesting matchup, I just have a hard time seeing them being ble to hang with a good CAA team.

He has thrown 22 TDs this year so it's not like he was non-existent.
They have to come out with the backup (a junior juco transfer) and establish some kind of passing game or else Nova is going to put 9 in the box instead of 8.

He is out courtesy of a right thigh contusion according to a report on Sports Network website.

Short yardage play calling is a disease.

SBU is going to use almost the entire first quarter on one drive.

You know you can switch audio by just clicking the PIP window. You don't have to swap the screens.
People complain about ESPN3, but I love it. Hooked up to a big LCD you can get 4 watchable games up at the same time.

Yeah, it's a pretty good service. Love the full coverage of the playoffs.

Agreed. Of course living in a large Metro area that offers an ISP who has not only the bandwidth, but access to ESPN3 helps. I have been watching ESPN3 for quite awhile, especially when we gave up cable.

I can't tell if SB's defense is really good or if Nova's offense sucks as bad as it looks right now.

The CAA just might be that down again this year. One team does not make a conference, but I haven't seen the CAA do a whole lot this year.
