The vote was probably taken before he choked with the fumble and interception against GSU.
These signatures have a 500 character limit?

That's just cold, Cluck....
SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
Re: ODU's Taylor Heinicke wins Walter Payton Award!
Congrats to Heineke and I don't think this should have been close, but I just find it odd that the guy that broke the single-season receiving record isn't even on the list.
Kaufman had 1850 yards receiving and 16 Td's and is nowhere on the list...interesting to say the least.

Keep in mind this was voted on at the end of the regular season. Kaufman still had a ways to go to get the record at that point.EWURanger wrote:Congrats to Heineke and I don't think this should have been close, but I just find it odd that the guy that broke the single-season receiving record isn't even on the list.

Re: ODU's Taylor Heinicke wins Walter Payton Award!
True, but his numbers were very comparable to Erik Lora's at the time, sans the # of receptions, and Lora finished 4th.Mvemjsunpx wrote:Keep in mind this was voted on at the end of the regular season. Cluck you basshole! You're just bitter because UD did away with their football program.Cluck U wrote:The vote was probably taken before he choked with the fumble and interception against GSU.
Re: ODU's Taylor Heinicke wins Walter Payton Award!
I get that and recognize that 600 of his yards came in the playoffs. And I know that WR's don't win it but I would have thought his regular season stats would have been enough to at least make the list. IMO he's easily one of the top 5 offensive players in the FCS.Mvemjsunpx wrote:Keep in mind this was voted on at the end of the regular season. Also, I would need to check, but I'm fairly certain that the record Kaufman broke was also made during the playoffs.

Will we have our first Payton and Heisman winner?93henfan wrote:Congrats to Heinicke! A great athlete and even better person.

Doubtful. I believe ODU is considered transitional FCS the next two years and I doubt he could overcome that label, let alone the fact that he will be facing much tougher competition the next two years on a team without the full complement of scholarships. It's an uphill battle.Cluck U wrote:Will we have our first Payton and Heisman winner?93henfan wrote:Congrats to Heinicke! A great athlete and even better person.

Would be cool as hell though.

2013 FCS (ineligible for playoffs)93henfan wrote:Doubtful. 2014 FBS (ineligible for conference championship, eligible for bowl but only after several extremely rare conditions are met)
So I think it is possible for him to win the Heisman in 2014. He has not burned a red-shirt yet. I don't think there is any plan to intentionally sit him, but if he gets hurt early or before the season, it is possible for him to sit the rest of the season out and be eligible in 2015.

Re: ODU's Taylor Heinicke wins Walter Payton Award!
Well, considering the bias against giving the award to the same guy twice (it's only happened once, and that was about thirty years ago), I'd say that Heinicke has a shot. Perhaps not a good one, as the Heisman voters tend to prefer a guy playing for a bogus B(C)$ squad, but a shot nonetheless. He'll probably get a token visit to New York before he's done....

4,158 yds that is reason enough for him to win.93henfan wrote:Congrats to Heinicke! A great athlete and even better person.

No. Eddie Conti set the record in 1998, when playoff stats didn't count.EWURanger wrote:I get that and recognize that 600 of his yards came in the playoffs. And I know that WR's don't win it but I would have thought his regular season stats would have been enough to at least make the list. (After looking it up, I see Delaware didn't make the playoffs that year anyway).

Ok, fair enough. I still stand by my previous statement of him being one of the best offensive players in the FCS. Dude's a complete game-changer.Mvemjsunpx wrote:No. Eddie Conti set the record in 1998, when playoff stats didn't count.EWURanger wrote:I get that and recognize that 600 of his yards came in the playoffs. And I know that WR's don't win it but I would have thought his regular season stats would have been enough to at least make the list. No doubt, looking forward to seeing him play on Sunday instead of Saturday.EWURanger wrote:Ok, fair enough. I still stand by my previous statement of him being one of the best offensive players in the FCS. Dude's a complete game-changer.Mvemjsunpx wrote:
