Albany with the obligatory denial which equates to pretty much a confirmation:

The UAlbany Athletic Department released the following statement on Wednesday afternoon.
"At this time, the reports that we are moving to the CAA are untrue. We remain a partner of the America East and we have no further comment on conference affiliation at this time."

It said they are looking at Stony Brook for all sports to but Hofstra is blocking. So why is 1 block hold the other 10 hostage? They don't have an all or nothing vote for an invite do they?

well if not Stony Brook, who may end up in the A10 w/ Siena after Dayton and St.Louis join the BE who? UNCG? UNCA? Fairfield also mentioned. If they want a fb member to join for all sports. UNH?

Re: Elon to the CAA. Albany expected to follow.
I think SBU will end up in the CAA. The real leverage Hofstra has right now is they're telling everyone SBU would use the CAA as a jumping off point to an FBS league (MAC, etc..).Fresno St. Alum wrote:well if not Stony Brook, who may end up in the A10 w/ Siena after Dayton and St.Louis join the BE who? In reality, SBU is probably 10 years from an FBS invite and I think that will be clear once the FBS conferences officially close their ranks for a while.
It might force Hofstra out (heard they've talked to the MAAC already), but I think everyone in the CAA would vote for it if they felt comfortable that SBU would be there at least 5 years.

If there was ever any tug-of-war over Richmond and William and Mary between the SoCon and CAA, I'd say the CAA just called checkmate.

Please take Elon - they haven't been able to beat ASU since 1964.
Re: Elon to the CAA. Albany expected to follow.
I have no idea what the fuck Elon is, but I was following a chick for about 50 miles on US-301 in MD and VA last Sunday who had an Elon sticker on her Toyota Rav 4 and she was smoking hot. She was a right lane slowpoke just like me and we traded spots a few times at various lights. I mentally boned her.
I welcome Elon to the CAA for that reason alone.

RICHMOND, Va. (May 23, 2013) – Elon University has accepted an invitation of membership to join the Colonial Athletic Association beginning July 1, 2014, CAA Commissioner Tom Yeager announced today.
“The member institutions of the CAA are thrilled that Elon has accepted our offer of membership,” CAA Commissioner Tom Yeager said. “We have been selectively searching for highly respected institutions that shared a common vision of institutional excellence and a commitment to the success of the young men and women participating in our athletic programs. Elon fits our model and will immediately become a valuable conference partner helping to elevate each individual institution.”
“On behalf of the presidents I want to express my great excitement that Elon has accepted our invitation to join the CAA in the 2014-15 academic year and to welcome President Lambert and the Phoenix family to the conference,” said UNCW Chancellor Gary L. Miller, who is the chair of the CAA Council of Presidents. “Elon brings the excellent academic and athletic reputation that is the hallmark of the conference. Having Elon with us will deepen long standing rivalries, create new competitive opportunities and support the important geographic footprint of the conference.”

Why would Albany pass? I thought CAA was their ultimate goal. Could keep travel costs down by staying put though.

Still waiting on official confirmation of Albany passing, but if we do it's definitely because of cost.slycat wrote:Why would Albany pass? I thought CAA was their ultimate goal. Could keep travel costs down by staying put though.

I forgot- do you have to have 7 members to keep an AQ for the playoffs, or is it only 6?Ibanez wrote:Some sources say there's no need.DKHardee wrote:So... Who takes Elons spot in the SoCon?

Albany is already in for football, so is SB. Why would those schools want to join for all sports and have to travel all the other teams down south?Fresno St. Alum wrote:CAA shoulda taken SBU and Albany now Albany is officially out.

Re: Elon to the CAA. Albany expected to follow.
I'm aware they're in for fb. There'd be a nice N/S split. All the others down south? Get a map! Northeastern, Hofstra, Drexel, Delaware, Albany, SBU(North seems pretty north to me) Towson and JMU pretty damn close to the north schools. The school that should bitch about travel is Charleston. This aint D-II you don't need 12 schools in the same state, it's okay to have some travel and extra exposure.andy7171 wrote:Albany is already in for football, so is SB. CAA is a better conf. CAA has a tv contract. CAA didn't just bring up a D-II member b/c the only other option was NJIT and Bryant, CCSU were held hostage by NEC football so they couldn't come even though the AEC wanted them.
