Why?

Why does?

WSU & UW have 30k+ stadiums and EWU doesn't?
Osu & UO have 30k+ stadiums and PSU doesn't?
ASU & UA have 30k+ stadiums and NAU doesn't?
USU BYU & UU have 20k+ stadiums and SUU doesn't?

Why can one university draw a certain size crowd, and the other can't?

Why did UCDavis build a 10k seat stadium instead of a 25k+?

These are just questions that I have not jabs at schools or programs.

Why can UM, App State & JMU draw over 25,000 per game, and no one else can even come close to those numbers?

App outdraws Wake Forest and Duke in the ACC. (not quite true, but close)

Edit: upon further review,
ASU 26,358
WF 28,912
DU 28,170

Flagship school of the state or the second largest school it hard to draw attention away from them...and really hard if you are trying to do so from a lower division

On basis of need. Why build a 25,000 seat stadium when you can't fill the 10,000 seats you already have?

Ignore Z's arrogant shit.....fuckin' only game in town, where the fuck else they gonna go? :dunce:

Anyway......

It's simply how things evolved. What is the history of collegiate athletics in your state? In Iowa, for example, Iowa State and UI were football giants when UNI was just a tiny teacher's college. Same in damned near every other state, including Washington.

Evolution.

This.

Alumni bases are small compared to those.
Small student bodies
Less press coverage
Less interest

It's the way it is sadly.

It helps to be the only show in the area as well...App seems to be the exception there.

I can leave my house in Cedar Falls at 4AM and get to 11AM kick offs for the following universities

Iowa
Iowa State
Illinois
Missouri
Minnesota (closer to them than NDSU is and it's NDSU's closest school)
Wisconsin
Notre Dame
Nebraska
Northwestern
Kansas
Kansas State (pushing it)
Purdue
Northern Illinois

With WMU, Ball State and Indiana being there by the end of the first quarter.

It's tough to draw in areas like that. Get out east where it takes longer to get place due to traffic, but withing the same radius of what I listed above there are 20-30 FBS programs.

I can leave my house in Greenville and can make the following FBS programs in 4 hours:
NC State
North Carolina
Duke
Wake Forest
Clemson
South Carolina
Georgia
Georgia Tech
Tennessee

Plus:
Presbyterian
Georgia State
Elon
App State
Western Carolina
Wofford
Furman
Georgia Southern
UNCC
Gardner Webb
Charleston Southern
Citadel
Coastal Carolina
Chattanooga
SC State
Samford (4.5 hrs)

Pretty fertile ground.

Yes, yes, I'm aware. Just didn't want to short-change ASU & UM by putting a 20,000 figure there. :coffee:

Yeah, but only a select few of those are WORTH driving 4+ hours to see. I'm fine with being 1.5 hours away from The Mecca, thank you very much.

Yea but in EWU's case there is a certain reason why 20k-40k ppl aren't at the game site. Same in Portland states case? In fact Portland state shd outdraw the ducks and especially the beavers. But they don't. And EWU shd easily outdraw the cougars. But they don't. And don't say students, or alumni bc that's not 70k+ current student and alum at husky stadium. Not to mention EWU has over 100 years worth of alumni. And that's also not 90k students and alum at the LA coliseum. In fact most USC fans never attended the school. Not even close. >1%

Seems to be the popular thing to do. NAU did a renovation and went from 16,000 to 10,500 seats. :dunce:

Not every team is obsessed with seating capacity like Montana fans...

UW just renovated their stadium to more money making, alumni friendly seating and has easily moved into the top 10 best college stadiums in the country. (Also one of the loudest). Besides, the seating wasn't reduced by much, especially when you're talking about 72,000+ seats. :ohno:

Depending when the stadium was built any changes to the seats may require them to but spaced out more, requiring reduced capacity due to ada standards
