This statement is very True. It isn't like he had to go up against the best Freshman in the Country, or one of the best QB's in the country.

Congrats to the guy from MT State. ALso congrats to JMU's Stephen Roberstson.

The voting was:
Daly: 485 points, 64 1st place votes
Robertson: 421 points, 43 1st place votes.

I figured it would come down to Robertson and Daly, and it. 3rd place was a distant 3rd.

Robertson was 3rd in the nation in tackles. His had 17 tackles for loss was 8th in the nation for LBs, but the 7 ahead of him were all NEC, Pioneer, and HBCU. Unfortunately for him, neither of the 2 nationally televised games on NBCSports were his monster games. VS UR had 8 tackles, .5 for loss, and vs TU had 11 tackles, 1 for a loss (JMU did hold West to 100 yds on 22 carries).

Daly led the nation in sacks with 14, but 4 were against a Div II school. 10 sacks in 11 Div I games, which is a typical season, normally wouldn't be good enough to win it. Had 20.5 tackles for loss, 3rd in the nation in TFL per game, 2nd for de ends (De end from G Webb had 19 in 11 games).

Funny....I was going to make the same argument, then I realized that if it were TRUE, it'd be really easy to focus on and stop that one guy. The only alternative argument is that the guys around him must be decent enough that he can't get double and triple teamed every play.

How did the CB from North Dakota State not win? That dude is the best defensive player in the FCS, IMO. He's been the best athlete on the field in the couple of Bison games I watched this year. He can do it all, fly around, defeat block, make tackles, and he's great in coverage. He'd have been my pick, although admittedly I haven't seen him play that much.

Forgot that the UNH game was also nationally televised, too. Stephon had 8 tackles in that one, but not much else. Stephon won conference defensive player of the week an astounding 4 times, yet in none of those 4 monster games (and the other couple of monster games he had) were any of the 3 nationally televised games. 2 of those 3 games (UNH and TU) were losses, and 2 of the 3 (UR and UNH) JMU was thrown all over because the secondary was HORRIBLE. Not Stephon's fault- JMU was #1 in the CAA against the rush and in sacks, dead last against the pass.

Course as a biased JMU fan I think Stephon should have won it. Not surprised he didn't.

You assume that those who vote actually WATCH the games....I would bet 90% of the voters just look at the stats for the year.

Probably true. I think if you're a voter for the Payton and the Buchanan you should try to at least watch as many games as you can that have the top nominees for the awards.
