Pretty sure there's been threads on the Gateway before but as a refresher…

Remove the track and move the field right up against existing grandstand which will become the visitors sideline.

Construct large east side structure that will increase capacity to 16,000 with room for further expansion.

East side structure will stretch all the way back to Washington Street, include cabana seating, luxury boxes, commercial space (sports bar, restaurant, apparel shop, bank), football operations offices, and locker rooms. One of the ideas is to also build a causeway over Washington street, linking the athletics facilities to the rest of the campus. Hence, the name Gateway. There are rumors of a new high rise dormitory or apartment building going up adjacent to the project on the other side of the street. EWU's enrollment is expected to grow by another 5,000 or so by 2020.

Approximately $5 million has already been donated to do the preliminary planning and design work.

Remaining funding would come through large donors, student fees (which have already been approved), the university, and the state.

Estimated cost: $60 million.

Then, NO. I dont' think it'll get built.

$5 million is a long ways from $60 million. There just isn't that kind of interest in EWU football from fans, alumni, etc.

You guys averaged 7,822 last season with a solid team for the past several years. Is there really demand for 16K seats? Based solely on that, I'd guess this won't get built.

True, but that $5 million was specifically donated just to get the preliminaries done. Don't think that would have happened if it wasn't going to be a go. And we won't need all $60 million up front, or from donors.

What was Montana's attendance prior to WaGriz?

We've pretty much averaged a sell out for the last 3 years, so demand is increasing. I know a number of people who watched games from home because they literally couldn't get tickets. The jump to 16,000 is a big one, but with increased enrollment, and the fact you'd have guaranteed sellouts for at least the Montana, MSU, and homecoming games, I think it makes sense to look into the future.

If you build it...

Montana is a bad example. There is nothing to do in Montana..that is why football is halfway popular. amirite EC(b)'ers ;)

If they designed/built it in stages, then maybe yes...your attendance figures this year:

Western Oregon: 6349
Weber St: 9734
SUU: 10,135
MSU: 10,223
PSU: 9522

Looks to me like they should expand by about 4,000 seats...

They averaged 9200 last season...

I've always read/believed when you build a stadium you build it so that your current average is 80% of the capacity. It will allow for good growth and allow the stadium to still look pretty full if the growth doesn't happen right away....and then allow the design to be expanded if needed,

Given that information it would seem the best stadium size for EWU is 12K. 9200 is exactly 80% of 12K.

12K also just seems appropriate to me.
