It's been more than 25 years since the Eastern Washington University versus Montana State football game didn't count in the Big Sky Conference standings.
But that doesn't lessen the importance of this week's game when the No. 2 Eagles battle the No. 14 Bobcats in Bozeman, Mont., on Saturday (Sept. 20). Kickoff at Bobcat Stadium is 12:10 p.m. Pacific time in a game carried live regionally by ROOT Sports. Fans may also listen to the game live on 700-AM ESPN and via the web at http://www.700espn.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, with pre-game coverage starting 1 1/2 hours prior to kickoff.
This is the fifth-straight season both teams will enter the Eagle-Bobcat game ranked nationally.
"We know what a challenge it will be, how good a program they are and how consistent they've been over the years," said Eastern head coach Beau Baldwin of the Bobcats, who shared league titles with EWU in 2010 and 2012, and won it outright in 2011. "I judge a lot on the consistency of their product on the field, and what I'm seeing this year is no different. We took advantage of the bye week to look at them and focus in on this game. It's going to be a tough ballgame for sure."
The Eagles are ranked No. 2 in this week's NCAA Football Championship Subdivision in The Sports Network top-25 poll. Montana State enters ranked 14th, and is 2-1 after last week's 43-33 home victory against Central Arkansas.

That was close to last year's score. MSU looks to be improved. Solid Oline, two of the best defenders in the BSC in Flowers and Singleton, experienced secondary, and Prukop is an accurate thrower and serious threat to run. Should be a battle.

EWU and Adams have also improved. Putting up a ton of points on the Huskies was impressive. Montana State's defense will not be as good as Washington's.
Why does everyone keep saying "Bobcats defense won't be as good as Washingtons"? This may be true, but what are you insinuating? That every team for the rest of the year EWU plays, whose defense isn't as good as UDubs, is going to give up 52 or more points?

It is not the same defense as last year. This year we have the best LB's in the country, our DB's are built to keep up with anyone in the country, and we have a D-line that has sacked a QB at least once in the last game....The only loss we have is to a team that could beat most NFL teams at this point (sure that same team has lost the last two games, and one of their players tried to play dead on a fake punt). UCA is probably one of, IF NOT, the fastest team in the country.
FYI...I have absolutely no confidence in our DB's...They never turn to look for the ball, and in my mind are the weakest part of the whole team....Not a great thing against EWU

POTY nominee....especially with the play dead reference. That clip still makes me giggle every time I watch it.

This quote damn near made me spray coffee everywhere.
BOZEMAN — When it was over and the dust from a 54-29 loss to Eastern Washington had settled, Montana State defensive coordinator Jamie Marshall plopped down in the team bus, shuffled the music on his iPhone, and Daniel Powter’s hit song “Bad Day” began playing.

Well...For him it was a bad day. But this years Bobcat team is probably one of the greatest teams in history. IF we lose (and that is a huge IF) is will be because of the following:
1) The Refs blew the game on at least 10 different calls (one on a TD that CLEARLY wasn't)
2) The Eagles were stealing our signs, and therefore had an unfair advantage
3) It will be loud and Cold, and our team will think they are playing in Missoula.
