Round 2: Richmond at Coastal Carolina

SATURDAY! SATURDAY! SATURDAY!
1:00 pm on ESPN3
Saturday's weather: High 64, 70% rain. The days before will be dry.

Sagarin rates Coastal at 96th, UR at 133. Its predictor index shows a rating of 61.47 + 2.44 (for the home team) = 63.91. UR's predictor score is 51.53 (12.38 point delta).

We loss to LU, Richmond beat them (but in 2OT)

We both played and beat Elon (CCU 31-3, UR 30-10)

Richmond has a reputation for not defending the pass well too. I think that their defense will struggle with us, as long as we don't get cocky. Morgan St. rushed for 175 yds last week. It will be a close game, IMO. Neither team will overpower the other.

URs logo is much cooler, but I'll go with the teal chickens this week.

Could be a close game. Richmond beat Liberty in OT and Coastal lost a close one to Liberty.

Against playoff teams, Richmond is 3-2, including the first round, Coastal is 0-1 vs playoff teams.

Richmond is a dangerous team, but a sloppy one. To see a team with a minus-12 turnover margin in the playoffs is unusual, to say the least, and makes me gunshy to pick them to beat a truly playoff-caliber team. They aren't as turnover prone with Michael Strauss at QB, but they still aren't real stingy either. If the Spiders are careful with the ball, they'll probably win, but it's hard to pick that given their track record.

Here's my assessment of the matchups & my pick for the game:

      • Quarterbacks -- (push)

        Running Backs - (push)

        Receivers/TEs - Richmond

        Offensive Line - (push)

        Defensive Line - (push)

        Linebackers --- Richmond

        Secondary ---- Coastal Carolina

        Kicking ------ Richmond

        Punting ------ Coastal Carolina

        Return Teams - Coastal Carolina

        Kickoffs ------ Coastal Carolina

        • Richmond 23-31 Coastal Carolina

I would be surprised by either winning going away. CCU going away is my call.

This will be a tough game, no doubt. There's no clear winner to predict.

Richmond has the #30 ranked defense against tougher competition.

Spiders win 34-27

Richmond not a CCU cream puff. Spiders in a close one.

Where are the fans? Disappointed in the turnout
Are the students gone?
Is it to hot?

I can hear a single fan yelling Go defense

I think school is still in. It's a cool day so that's no excuse. The view on CCU is toward the visitors side. There's a huge section on the home side that is normally packed. I admit, the community doesn't seem to care about CCU.

The student section is the endzone. The visitor side has a lot of teal and black in it

The poster above whose name would be a great password had the secondary figured right
Coastal is right on the receivers
Takes a perfect pass to complete

The color man said that was a bad place to turn the ball over for Coastal
Wonder where it is a good place to do it

R recovers on their own 3 yard line

Neither team is overpowering the other. UR is better passing than rushing. CCU defense is making the right plays. They're doing well.

This is going to be a game won by FGs. Our red zone offense isn't cutting it.

The Richmond QB watches every pass from his ass
