93henfan Excite-o-meter Showing Activity

I didn't think I could get excited being 2-3 after Week 5, but UD football is showing signs of life after four dreadful seasons.

One score losses to Jax and Nova (with Robertson) are the only thing keeping us from a potential 4-1 record. We weren't going to beat North Carolina, even though we were only down by a field goal at the half.

This team of predominantly freshmen and sophomores is playing with a fire under their butts, finally, and there is improvement every week. The o-line is getting better and the d is strong. If we can actually teach our "urban" quarterback how to throw, look out!

They'd need to go 5-1 the rest of the way to sniff playoffs, and that's a tall order with UNH and JMU still on the schedule, but at least there is still fleeting hope.

Buckle up and watch this new crop of baby blue chickens grow over the next two or three years. The excite-o-meter is moving again.

I'm thinking about going to see a game for the first time in two years if they stay entertaining.

I did! And I've saved a couple of thousand dollars of season tickets, mandatory donations, and parking fees while avoiding shitty football. :thumb:

Watched the first half and was happy, but knew they would not hold on so turned on a movie for Mrs89. Checked the score... was right. Checked the score again, still right. Checked one last time, had to pause the movie and go back to the game. Just when I thought I was out, they pulled be back in.

93, the product on the field looked much better on Saturday night no doubt. They're running it down opponents throats right now. Who needs a passing game? Defense is a little inconsistent but better than the past 2 years.

Crowds are way down though. 12K there Saturday night & it was a late arriving one - parking lots were deserted. The tailgate scene ain't the same anymore.

Reports on GoHens (recent ones - this season) have said the CSC gestapo has been harassing people in the lots.

The school is getting what it wants I guess. A well-behaved empty parking lot.

Don't let a pee in the butt get you down 93.

That's just plain dumb. Open containers in Washington are illegal and there are plenty of staters, Cheney, and campus PD, but as long as you're drinking out of a cup and aren't being a complete douche, they leave you alone.

This has been a concerted agenda since 2008, so common sense doesn't apply. The low point was a few years back when they ejected a loyal fan who brought and played "charge" and the school fight song on his trumpet at appropriate times. This caused an uproar on the spot and the scared CSC security started yanking fans under the stands and physically roughed them up, including the elderly.

It's been a really bad thing brewing for awhile, and the season ticket numbers, down probably 60%, bare it out.

So you guys have a well-behaved empty parking lot too?

Agreed. UD was always going to win on the field again, it was just a matter of time. But I don't think winning is going to bring back the fan base. They didn't leave in droves starting in 2008 because of the W's and L's and I don't think anyone is paying close enough attention to come back, outside of '93 maybe. With the CAA being as weak as it is, and with UD not playing Richmond this year, the only game left where UD should not be favored will be against JMU in November, which will be pretty much a playoff game. Odds of getting more than 15k for that game will be pretty low however.

That'd be incorrect - the exact opposite actually. There are so few people in the Gold lot - you can park where you want now. I was telling my wife on Saturday there's not even any boundary between the back 2 thirds of the Gold Lot anymore. You can be a "Gold Champion" and park in the row behind the assigned concrete parking & no one will say boo.

Inside the stadium potentially there could be issues but guys in the parking lots - no chance.

Thanks for clarification. I did see the comment on GoHens, I think after the opener, but I'm not going to bother searching and linking it.

CSC was a bad idea from the get go. Those guys are used to doing Eagles games and concerts. That's a whole different demographic than Delaware football and they didn't scale down accordingly for awhile. I know Kevin Tresolini did write about the trumpet incident, which led to some meeting between CSC and UD. I think they lightened up a little after that.

I don't mind the CSC folks, they're pretty nice. Of course, it's easy now to police the stadium because of so few people coming through the turnstiles. But truth be told, I think there was something to the idea that UD ticket holders were taken aback when they replaced the mostly old and mostly white ticket takers and ushers with the mostly black CSC folks. We didn't play DSU for all those years and it wasn't just because we'd kick their butts every time we'd play them. :coffee:

Still remain a season ticket holder since about 1992. The UD admin is trying to make things better.
1. There are some UD tailgates that are hosted by the University for the season ticket holders.
2. CSC has many really nice people now and they are nothing but friendly. This is a BIG change from 2008. I actually was in section J when "pecker head" (trumpet player) finally got caught with his instrument in hand (so to speak). It was just wrong what was being done to hunt him down each week. CSC had a guy that would just be there to catch him. Pretty funny how his trumpet would just disappear when he came up looking for it.
3. I have never seen anyone hassle our tail gate but that also never happened in the past. We have about 30-35 folks each week and interestingly enough only about 5 of them have any connection to UD. I do know that the students stay away because of the tailgate hassles that they get.
4. UD added the beer garden for season ticket holders - nice addition.
5. The signing day get together is really nice, usually includes tickets to a BB game. Oddly enough it was stolen from the "Huddle" group that would have KC do a much lower key review of the kids that were signed. KC and the Huddle did it for about three years prior to UD taking it over. It is much nicer and can accommodate many more people but the Huddle was much more intimate and we could easily ask questions of the coach.

It is a shame that UD did such at bad job of introducing the parking and fee increases, the timing was at the exact time of the market crash in 2008 which certainly did not help. I do not believe that there will ever be the day that we have the average of 20,000 in the stadium each game. Just think that many of the long time fans have moved on and most likely not to return. Eddie Conti sat near me one of the games this year, I asked him what he thought of the atmosphere. He could not believe how dead it was.
