What do you guys all think of the new coaches poll released today? Any teams left out? Any non-deserving teams? How well is your conference representing? Shifts?
1 Coastal Carolina (15) 6-0 610 1
2 Jacksonville State (5) 5-1 595 3
3 James Madison (3) 7-0 569 5
4 Illinois State (2) 5-1 566 4
5 Chattanooga 5-1 498 6
6 South Dakota State 5-1 492 7
7 Eastern Washington 3-2 452 8
8 North Dakota State 4-2 439 2
9 McNeese State 6-0 425 9
10 Sam Houston State 4-2 378 11
11 Fordham 6-1 374 10
12 Richmond 5-1 347 13
13 Portland State 5-1 342 17
14 Eastern Kentucky 4-2 311 15
15 Harvard 5-0 206 18
16 William & Mary 4-2 190 24
17 Youngstown State 3-3 177 12
18 Montana 3-3 173 19
19 Montana State 3-3 155 16
20 Charleston Southern 5-1 142 23
21 Indiana State 4-2 114 NR
22 Villanova 3-3 109 25
23 Western Illinois 4-2 99 NR
24 North Carolina A&T 5-1 83 NR
25 Northern Iowa 2-4 60 14
Personally, even though being a southerner and a fan of the Big South, I believe Coastal is ranked too high. They belong in the Top 5, just not sure that they are the best team in the nation. Charleston Southern is sitting in a pretty deserving spot, not too high, not too low, with a big chance to prove themselves worthy of national talk and probably a Top 10 ranking if they can knock off Coastal in 2 weeks at their place. And I just don't know what has happened to Coach Gill and the Flames, I guess their flames are out..
My Top 5 would probably go; 1. James Madison 2. Jacksonville St 3. Coastal Carolina 4. ISU and 5. McNeese/UT Chat (both very tough squads)
Thoughts?

I would put JMU #1
Portland State at 13 is a joke - way too low. Why are they below teams like Fordham, for example?

Definitely too low, but I can't find myself putting them no higher than #11. Not better than that Sam Houston State team nor undefeated McNeese. And that Top 8 speaks for itself.

Why would you put a 4-2 SHSU, with a loss to a medicore Texas Tech and Lamar, and best win is over Incarnate Word (others over HBU, SFA and ACU) ahead of them?
McNeese has not beaten a team with a winning record.

Call me a curmudgeon all you want, but it's no coincidence that the Big South and OVC don't put teams in the finals. It is maybe too bad that CCU has run into NDSU in the quarters, but I'm sorry, until they get past the final 8, I would never put these two this high now.

This. I have ISU 1 and JMU 2.
Dback is also correct.

PSU is too low. Win over Washington State looks pretty good right now. Wish I could give them credit for the North Texas win, but they just might be the wost football team in Divisions I and II right now.

I would have William and Mary and Fordham switched.

I would too had we not lost to Delaware. That game may cost us all year, unless we run the table from here on out. Certainly, it didn't help that they lost 20-0 to Rhode the next week, either.

Yes but three of their six wins were over teams that are now 0.500 so that they WOULD have winning records if they'd beaten McNeese. Having said that I would rate Portland State ahead of them right now. I do think their defense is legit. The best one they've had for quite some time. But their offense sputters a lot. They need to get it smoothed out.
Portland State has, to me, had very scary good performances at times. I don't think anybody wants to catch them on one of their good days.

PSU too low, Montana/Montana St too high. SUU not being ranked js a joke.
Also, we are 4-2, not 3-2.

Texas Tech is 5-2 and took #3 TCU to the wire. I'd hardly call them mediocre. Other than that, I agree with your assessment of SHSU.

SDSU lost to NDSU by 21 at home. Not sure why you have them at #2.

Not that egregious at 3-2 vs DI.

Coastal is a top 5 team. Not #1, but definitely Top 5. I agree with Hen, we get close but never to the finals. We had NDSU last year and it wasn't them that really beat us, it was a few stupid calls by CCU coaches (and 1 bad ref call that even ESPN said was bad).

SDSU would be over-rated at #2.
