Portland State looks to continue their great season, trying to sweep the Montana schools.
At 4-3, with games still against EWU and MSU, Montana needs a win to stay in the at-large discussion.

This game will really show if we have progressed or not. We have certainly had our share of injuries but the growing pains are what are really biting us. I am not throwing the coaches under the bus by any means, it takes some time to adjust to everything as well as get the players to adjust. I am hopeful that we can play well this weekend but it will be a tall task to go into Portland and come out with a win. PSU has played well this year with NoDak being the outlier.

Don't think the Griz can score more than PSU.

The Griz just put 42 on a UND defense that PSU only managed 17 against.

Portland wins, never seen a kicker/punter as good as theirs.

If you're giving 18, I'll take it for $5,000.

Unfortunately, things don't work that way. Nobody can run on NoDak, but their pass defense sucks. The Griz matched up much better with UND than PSU did.
This game is a coin flip, but I think the Viks will eke it out.

UND defense averages giving up 86 yards per game on the ground. The Griz just put 160 on them.

What Z said, but also, if UND's pass defense is as awful as everyone says (and they are bad), PSU should have been able to throw all over them, even if they're a run first team.

That was a good sign for the Griz (only the 2nd. time UND has allowed over 100) if they can keep it up. Still… it
was only 3.5 ypc.

Their efficiency rating in that game was good (152), but they only threw it 17 times and only ran 47 offensive plays.

For whatever reason, we did not pass that much against UND. We started off with a big pass play, then just continued to run the ball the rest of the game. Barnum's inexperience has caused him to be outcoached in a few halves of games, but I think that was the only time he was outcoached the whole game.

Do you know what Montana's average YPC this season is? 3.5
Do you know what UND's D allows on average per carry? 2.6

Well, it's not like that's unusual for you guys. You have 343 rushing attempts this year, compared to just 117 pass attempts. That's a 75/25 split. In the UND game you actually had a 30/17 split which was MORE than your normal game...

Don't get me wrong. It sure looks like PSU is going to win this thing. But you've never seen a punter as good as PSU's? Does Ray Guy ring a bell?

Ray Guy was a great punter, but this guy is him and Jab Stenerud

Gonzales's field goal stats are quite good (10/11, 4/4 40+, only miss was blocked), but his punting stats aren't really notable (40.5 ypp).

Looks to me like they are still in the automatic bid discussion. It's a tough task but if they win out they'll end with 1 conference loss. Portland State will have at least two. Eastern Washington will have at least 1 and Montana would have beaten them head to head. Southern Utah is unbeaten in conference play but they have four pretty tough games including a game at Portland State to end the season. Looks to me like Montana definitely has a shot at the automatic bid if they can win out. I don't know what the tie breaker would be if Southern Utah loses just one conference game and Montana does as well and they haven't played each other but I also don't think it's beyond the realm of reasonable possibility that Southern Utah could lose two.

Even if the Griz lose this one, they can still get to 7 D-I wins if they win out after that. And I think we all know a 7-4 Montana team isn't staying home for the playoffs.

Especially with a win against either PSU or Eastern as well as NDSU.
But way to rest on your laurels.
