When were both teams good at the same time? TU pretty much sucked every year till 2011, and last UD playoffs was 2010. TU wasn't good till 2011 (playoffs), 2012 (should have been playoffs, got screwed), (2013 NC game).
I wouldn't say they both suck. I'd say BOTH RIGHT NOW are mediocre, top 40 to top 50 (out of 120) I-AA teams.
TU (4-3/2-2) lost @ Elon because they had all 6 RB's hurt by the 2nd? qtr and were down to a QB and FB in the backfield along with losing another OL. They would beat Elon 9 times out of 10. Played ECU tough and loss to JMU was somewhat respectable. I think you could say TU is mediocre. Heck if they beat UD then they could be 4th CAA playoff team make by winning 2 of 3 (@ Maine, @ W&M, URI)
UD would roll Jacksonville right now..After last Sat I would move UD out of the sucks category into the mediocre..

Remember, it was just 3 weeks ago when UD got blasted 20-0 by a winless Rhode Island team. It wasn't just the piss poor showing against Jacksonville at the start of the year that haunts UD.

Yeah, the 1st game against a tops in the Pioneer quasi non-scholly Jacksonville can be explained away as a very young team breaking in a rFr QB. But the URI loss is a headscratcher for sure, esp consider it came between the W&M & UNH wins.
I guess most conferences have a Jekyll & Hyde team- UD is the CAA's Jekyll & Hyde. Beat a team in the top 2-3, then lose to a team in the bottom 2-3. Real headscrachers for sure.

It helps confuse the issue more when you realize the CAA is exceedingly weak this year outside of Richmond and JMU. W&M isn't an awful team, but they're not really a good one either. Tons of mediocrity this year and unless Richmond can get on a hot streak the CAA won't hang around long in the playoffs.

Or IF the new JMU QB exceeds non purple shaded expectations, as the the UR defense isn't any better than JMU's (both are currently 8 & 9 in CAA in Total defense) & JMU does get its best DL back from suspension. New QB will get his baptism against the #1 defense in the CAA this weekend, and then after a bye week back to back good defensed in UD (currently #4 CAA total de) then VU (currently #2). Will pretty much know by after the UD game whether or not the kid is good enough to take JMU anywhere.
But yeah the CAA isn't likely going to have a team in Frisco this year, and maybe not the semis. 9 of the last 12 seasons 03'-14' had at least one CAA team in the semis. The only 3 that didn't were 05, 10', and 11'. This season could be the 4th in 13..

Its as relevant now as the Big Sky, or any other conference outside the MVFC...
And I edited my prior post to say that the CAA is "likely not" to have a team in the semis to "maybe not" for the simple fact that after you plug a couple MVFC teams in there, the next 2 spots look wide open. There really aren't any dominant teams out there outside the MVFC. JSU? OVC. I'll believe it when I see it. CCU? With a cupcake schedule they're barely beating some mediocre teams. There's 2-3 good teams in the CAA & Big Sky, a couple in the Southland (McNeese & SHSU) and UTC in the So-Con. Heck, things look more wide open than ever...

I guess the Tribe will be labeled based on our loss to Delaware and the Blue Hens subsequent loss to Rhode Island. What else have you seen to indicate the Tribe isn't any good? The Tribe handled New Hampshire and Villanova easily, just crushed a Hampton team that easily could have beaten Richmond, and lost at UVA in the last possession. Will a win over JMU this weekend change that thought? Probably not, since Lee is out. Delaware manhandled us up front and won on the last play of the game by one point. I think Richmond is good, JMU is good and W&M is good. I will agree that NH is down from their usual heights and that Villanova was crushed by the Robertson injury. Reputation is 80% of the polls anyway right now. I think any of the top 3 CAA teams would beat Coastal Carolina who is ranked #1 right now. They also might beat several of the top Big Sky teams or MVFC. But we won't know if that is the case until the playoffs. The CAA doesn't play those teams OOC during the year, choosing instead to play one FBS usually and then their conference schedules. Since the FBS game is often a loss, any tougher schedule means going 6-2 in the league just to have a chance for the playoffs. I would agree that Delaware looks mediocre, as does Towson, NH and Villanova. But all of those teams are one good month from making the playoffs. JMU and Richmond will make the playoffs even without a good final month. W&M gets in if they finish 3rd which they may do just by beating Elon and Towson.

Delaware is a team with raw talent here and there, but piss poor coaching. Delaware will never be consistent with Dave Crock as head coach. He has a long resume full of no real accomplishments.
The CAA was relevant last year. Last year had one team in the semis, UNH who came within a hair of making the NC game. And would have had 2 if not for a John Robertson concussion that caused him to miss their their qtrfinal vs SHSU...
The CAA was relevant in 2013- had 2 teams in the semis (UNH & TU)- something no other conference could claim. Also 1, TU, in the NC game.
Only 3 of the last 12 years 03'-14' when it could be argued the CAA wasn't relevant- when it didn't have at least 1 team in the semis: 2005, 2011, and 2012...

Hey, when you've ridden the coattails of so many different teams that made the semis and/or won the NC, it's hard to keep them all straight.
Accuracy.
Big Sky throwing anything the way of the CAA is comical. Your conference rode the coattails of the Griz for 15 years and now there aren't any coattails on which to ride.

You fucking serious, Clark? The Griz were the Yankees of the Big Sky for all those years.

Ahem...more championships and almost as many semi appearances as your entire conference since then.

Hey Buddy, go fuck yourself! Towson is one game off where I thought they'd be, 5-2. They played Elon in a monsoon and had two RBs go down in the early second quarter up 14-0, with only a FB to fill in the rest of the game.
"Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."
