Bracketology

This is the most recent NOBOWLS.com bracket. This is solely based on if the playoffs were to start TODAY, so it will definitely shift. What do you guys think? Image

When you think rationally, it makes sense that CSU grabs that #8 seed over CCU, though I wish the Big South could manage to be a 2-seed conference with CSU at #6 or #7 and CCU at #8. What kills this is Coastal's out of conference schedule and lack of a signature win. Coastal's best win is a struggling unranked Western Illinois, and most of their conference wins besides the last one were not pretty performances. CSU on the other hand have two Top 20 wins (possibly two Top 15 if El Cid can beat Chatty), and their only two losses come from FBS schools (considering if they take care of business against Liberty). It will be hard for the committee to #1, give 2 Big South schools a seed, and #2, give Coastal a seed when CSU obviously has the better resume and the head to head. But two seeds is wishful thinking, right? Looks like its either CSU or none when it comes to seed talk.

Only thing I hate about this bracket is, regardless of what Big South team makes it to the 3rd round, Jacksonville State is the likely opponent...

All changes if CSU doesn't beat Liberty. But if they do....they'd be undefeated in FCS with 2 top 25 wins and a win over a 2014 playoff team (LU). CCU winning out would be 10-1 with only a loss to likely top 10 CSU. I think they'd both deserve a seed.

But as for your bracket......CSU hosting the winner of Coastal vs Citadel!!?? Thats juicy right there. Although I honestly don't know how CSU could host Citadel in a playoff game (same city). It would draw 20,000 in Citadels stadium. CSUs holds 4k officially, standing room maybe 7k max.

CSU would get a bye in that scenario....and in that week off....would HAVE to go rent 5-10K temporary bleachers.

It would take some losses in those 1-7 seeds to get two Big South teams seeded, which is my dream but I see about a 5% chance of that happening, this year at least. 9-2 from CSU with their resume and a shiny 10-1 from Coastal and the committee would have to at least think on it. But as I said, possible scenarios are CSU and Coastal seeded, CSU seeded only, or neither seeded.

As for your stadium statement, I know the Bucs can't hold much, but that doesn't even play a factor. If you earn your seed, you earn the rights to a home game, and in this situation, if CSU and Citadel (or Coastal for that matter) were to match in the 2nd round, it doesn't matter if Citadel/Coastal could hold 80k, the game is being played at your house. So get the rental company on speed dial

Haha thanks we will. Harvard being top 15 helps because Ivy League doesn't go to playoffs. So that bumps everyone up 1 rank.

I honestly don't know how we would host Citadel. Coastal travels well but won't bring as many as Citadel would. I admit...when we had them here in 2014 it was embarrassing. We HAVE to fix the seating in that off week if we are fortunate enough to beat LU and get a home game. We finish at Alabama so really we'd have 3 weeks to do it.

You underestimate Coastal. IF CSU hosted Coastal, it would be an epic game. It would be the biggest revenge game ever and Coastal fans would come out of the woodwork (like they are known to do.)

Indeed it would. But...man...The Citadel...SoCon champs...in playoffs for 1st time since 1992? Against Charleston Southern? I'm just saying...Citadel would bring 10,000 fans plus the entire Corp of Cadets probably. I just don't know if we could host it. Hosting Coastal would require more seats too.

Either one would be too much. But you know us....we'll line that damn 8 lane track with folding chairs if need be. Tell me that wouldnt be some ghetto fab shit!! It's the Buccaneers way!!!

I don't think two BSC teams can meet in round one.

I think you're correct. It would be round 2, if CCU or CSU played and beat The Citadel.

Buc, like I said. It would be EPIC!

BSC = Big Sky in this case. He has PSU and NAU in the first round.

They can be matched up if they didn't play each other in the regular season. See: SELA and Sam Houston last year.

Interesting. Almost as interesting as to how much I'm mailing it in these days with the Hens sucking. :(

If CSU gets the bye then CCU should play the Dawgs and the winner play us the next week. I have faith the Bucs could get the 10K or so temp seats in place to house the crowd.

If everyone wins out their FCS games....it may be Citadel vs either CSU/CCU round 1.... winner faces CSU/CCU Round 2.

This is exciting.

They'll have 3 weeks. Alabama week the 21st. Bye the 28th. From end of Liberty game on 14th to kickoff December 5th.

Gotta beat LU or its irrelevant.

Not to be a dick and I think CSU gets a seed as of right now but a win over a 2014 playoff team is meaningless.

I know you stated that this is a bracket if the season ended today but South Dakota and Youngstown State are not likely to make it. Both are 5-4 and have tough games remaining (South Dakota: South Dakota State and @Illinois State)(Youngstown State: North Dakota State and @Indiana State). UNI, on the other hand, should win-out and make it in with a 7-4 mark.

If that were to turn out to be true both the #1 seed, Jacksonville State, and the #2 seed, McNeese State, would be in serious jeopardy of losing their first playoff games. Jacksonville State would have its hands full with either Northern Iowa or Chattanooga...who Jacksonville State barely got by in the season opener. I'd favor Northern Iowa to beat Chattanooga and be the team Jacksonville State has to play and I'd definitely favor Northern Iowa to beat Jacksonville State.

With McNeese it'd be pretty much a lock that it'd be James Madison and McNeese would be the underdog to James Madison. I'd hope they could win but they'd be the underdog.

True but in polls names carry weight. Beating "Liberty" looks better to pollsters than if we beat Savannah State or a D2 team or something.

Some bullcr@p going on there, and it's not so much in who's there but in how they're arranged. I understand the NCAA's bogus penchant for regionalization, but if we're not going for a full-blown regional set-up, then we have no business seeing intra-conference matchups (PSU-NAU in Round 1, the potential CCU-Chuck South game in Round 2). Even if we DO go back to the old system, I don't like seeing these matchups so soon in the playoffs.

I think it's good for fans and budgets. Closer games are easier and cheaper to attend and saves money. Afterall....these pay day FBS games are going away soon.
