Guess they figured with Montana getting San Diego that it was someone else's turn....so they kept UND out

I'd like it better if Dayton had been more dominant in its wins and finished undefeated. But I'll probably start watching it hoping Dayton surprises people.

Mismatch #3… So, not only does the committee allow a 6-5 team in, they give them one of the two weakest opponents in the field.

Dayton has unquestionably the worst offense in the playoffs—Western Illinois has noticeably better numbers than them even
before taking the massive SoS difference into account. The defenses are closer, but the Leathernecks still seem to have a slight edge there. If the Flyers want to give themselves a chance, they need to take advantage of WIU's terrible special teams.
Here's my assessment of the matchups & my pick for the game:
- Quarterbacks -- Western Illinois
Running Backs - Western Illinois
Receivers/TEs - Western Illinois
Offensive Line - Western Illinois
Defensive Line - (push)
Linebackers --- Western Illinois
Secondary ---- Western Illinois
Kicking ------ Dayton
Punting ------ Dayton
Return Teams - Dayton
Kickoffs ------ Dayton
- Western Illinois 27-10 Dayton

Watching this game now. Dayton doesn't look overpowered...yet. Still first quarter.
Two Dayton sacks so far.

I guess reality could rear its ugly head at any time but somebody needs to hurry up and explain to Dayton that they can't compete with Western Illinois.

Dayton committed the cardinal sin of not parlaying early dominance into as big a lead as they should have had.

Really too bad for Dayton. They have only themselves to blame for being behind at halftime.

Good to know a team that didn't even deserve to go to the playoffs, is going to the second round

Well a shame for the Flyers. They had the game plan and the effort to have a shot but they needed to score points during those multiple trips into the red zone in the first half before Western Illinois shut down their offense. Their defense gave it a gallant effort but I think they got kind of gassed.

Well, when you are playing against Dayton in the first round it's bound to happen.

WIU also beat SDSU, EIU and UNI during the season. UNI is also in the second round now with an easy win over EIEIU.

When you have only 6 wins, 5 losses, including 4 I-AA losses, getting anal raped 59-7 in one of them, you don't deserve the playoffs, I don't care what your SOS is..

Finished 3rd in the MVFC.
EIU and UNH were bigger shams for getting into the playoffs.
SHSU got into the playoffs with 6 D1 wins in 2013

WIU and UNI got the biggest patsies of the playoffs simply to make their selections seem like the right ones.

Right. If there's any team NoDak should've gotten in over, it was UNH.

They shouldn't have been in either. Like I said in the other thread, the last 4 teams in proved the point of why it should go back to 20.
EIU- shouldn't have been in.
UNH- shouldn't have been in.
Fordham- shouldn't have been in.
WIU- shouldn't have been in.

I don't disagree with going to 20 teams.
The issue is, with WIU you want to focus on that one game.
They beat SDSU. They beat UNI. They beat EIU. That's 3 playoff wins. Lost on the road by 1 TD to CCU - another playoff team.
They finished third in the MVFC. If you're going to leave the third place team out you can't take the 4th and 5th place teams - UNI and SDSU - can you?

A lot of people didn't realize they finished ahead of UNI and SDSU because of head-to-head.

Yep.
For better or worse the MVFC finish this year was
1. NDSU
2. Illinois State
3. Western Illinois
4. Northern Iowa
5. South Dakota State
Or...
T1. NDSU
T2. ISUr
T3. WIU
T3. UNI
T3. SDSU
However, sites like ESPN (and even the Valley's official site) list it like
Illinois State 7-1 9-2
North Dakota State 7-1 9-2
Northern Iowa 5-3 8-4
South Dakota State 5-3 8-4
Western Illinois 5-3 7-5
Indiana State 3-5 5-6
South Dakota 3-5 5-6
Youngstown State 3-5 5-6
Southern Illinois 2-6 3-8
Missouri State 0-8 1-10
So what people see is WIU is in 5th

I painfully remember that back in 1997 the #2 team from the then Gateway Conference, Northern Iowa, was left out of the playoffs while the #3 team, Youngstown State got in. McNeese State beat #2 Gateway finisher Northern Iowa during the regular season. Then they beat #1 Gateway finisher Western Illinois in the second round of the playoffs.
But they lost by 10-9 to the #3 Gateway finisher Youngstown State in the national championship game in association with all KINDS of really disappointing things happening.
