Charleston Southern @ Jacksonville St : Mission Impossible??

Uncharted waters for my beloved Buccaneers of Charleston Southern. We've never played JSU or even a team from that conference. Don't know much about them other than watching that Auburn game earlier this year.
Is it Mission Impossible for my Bucs??
I'll say I'm even more convinced we have one of the top 10 defenses in FCS. Statistically we have been 1st or 2nd in FCS all year. But adjusting for schedule differences....that's not always accurate. However....The Citadel is no joke. Legit top 15 team with a powerful offense....even proven with win vs SEC team. Huge respect for them....and we shut them down twice. I'm convinced....our D is top 10 caliber. Maybe top 5.
Our offense? It's been rolling all year...until now. Major problems at QB. 1st teamer has an undisclosed illness (heard a bad flu) and possible concussion now. 2nd stringer....1 play vs Citadel and their D knocked him out cold, concussion (did I add that Citadels D brings the wood? They do.) Our 3rd teamer....well...doesn't fit our system. If 1st team guy Austin Brown is healthy we are solid. We have 2 RBS that I think can play anywhere in FCS. Mike Holloway is one and he's a star. He'll be CSUs all time leading rusher by game 6 next year. We have several 5th or 6th (2 of em due to medical waivers) year seniors at WR.
So....what are our odds? I'm hearing from CSU folks that if our 1st team QB is healthy JSU will be about a 10 point favorite. If not....could get a bit ugly.
CSU has historically stepped it's play up in big environments. App State, Coastal, Liberty, Citadel, 1 point near upset at Vandy, etc. We tend to play up or down to our opponent. The big stadium and crowd will likely help us more than hurt us.
If I had to bet my dogs if on it....I'd take JSU by 7-10 points. Anyone got input on JSU?

From my perspective, I don't see CSU in the same class as JSU. I hope you win, but don't see a way for you to get there. JSU is just going to be too athletic for CSU to overcome. My guess is a 14+ point loss. Good luck, you guys have over-achieved all year, maybe you have another one in you.

CSU defends running teams very well- their bear defense was the only one that could consistently shut us down.
JSU is another animal altogether. Very well balanced, with a lot of players who could as easily be playing in the SEC.
CSU has the defense to beat JSU, but I don't think they have the offense.

I watched the JSU game yesterday. Their offense should be able to be contained by the Buc defense but we are going to have to come up with some creative strategies on the offensive side of the ball to have a decent chance of winning.

Anybody left, except maybe Colgate, could beat anybody else that's left. Don't sell yourselves short.

Judging by yesterday's score JSU's D isn't impregnable.

I've always seen us over the years as a feisty team, good defense, with some good athletes who would pull an upset or two...but wasn't a top 20 caliber team.
What is JSUs strength? Weakness?

Have you heard any news on our QBs? Brown?

I'm very confident in our defense. When healthy....ooffense too.
Just realized....SHSU and Colgate play the winner and they both upset seeded teams. If...huge IF...we were to upset JSU....that means we'd host a Final 4 game, for a chance at the NC game, at our dump for the world to see!!??
Oh Lord....I've been a good man Lord...I've never asked much....but please make this happen....

After seeing the Chattanooga and JSU game I feel great about our chances. CSU makes plays when they are needed. The game against the Citadel was ugly but very effective. A great defensive battle for both teams with CSU's offense edging out the Citadel's Offense. We have got to get our punting to be consistent. We can't average 27 yards a punt and expect our defense to always pull us out of bad situations. I was impressed with the 3rd string QB from Bishop England as well with the conservative play call to fit his ability. This shows that we have coaches that understand their players ability and put our team in the best position for a win. Man it is great to be a Buccaneer.
Bucs90 this is exactly what we envisioned when we played and you coached. This forces the University side of the street to see how important the other side of the road is to PR and recruiting students. Hopefully with the revenue and positive attention that is being generating from this season they can see how much the other side of the street means.

No. They did put up 640 yards of offense, though.

Early lines are JSU -10. About what I thought it would be. They usually give 3 points for home field so the teams themselves they see as about a TD difference.
We need a couple big plays. Like a 90 yard red zone pick 6 to create a 14 point swing. Maybe a special teams return.
10 point dogs. Go get em Bucs.

Not bloody likely. I mean, if a Bishop England, as 3rd stringer is impressive and getting it done, you should step back and see who else is under utilized.
And I can say that, I went to BE.

No offense to the BE kid. But if Brown doesn't play we won't keep the game within 20 points.

Hard to believe JSU didn't take the last game by 20 points. 600+ yards on offense...and yet the JSU defense was shredded.
Now that JSU's shaken off the rust, I don't see CSU staying with the Gamecocks.
JSU takes this one easily.

Has anybody here seen CSU play before?
I believe 75% of the teams they've played this year were more athletic than them. If their starting QB can somehow find a way to play Friday, I believe it gives them more of a chance than you all think. Their defense will bend but not break, and it's hard to keep option teams out the end-zone.
Not saying CSU wins, but I believe some of the predictions on here are ludicrous, and are based more upon a "lack" of knowledge of the opponent.

GSU made a living out of winning with less athletic teams.

CSUs offense may not be the most impressive athletically but theyre good and play with great discipline and technique.. But the CSU D looked very athletic to me. Great corners. Read up on some of their LBs. The Solomon Brown kid was like a 100 meter hurdle champion, and he's playing LB.
JSU looks like an FBS team though. We'll see how it goes. To have any chance I think CSU must get one of those 2 QBs healthy.

Even without the QB injuries, this would be a tough haul for the Bucs. With the injuries, though, I just don't see any way CSU can consistently make Jacksonville State pay for stuffing the box—and that's assuming JSU even needs to stuff the box regularly. Charleston Southern's D is too good to get shredded, but they may have to win the game almost by themselves like they did against The Citadel. I don't see that happening, and this contest could end up something like the Montana/NDSU game.
Here's my assessment of the matchups & my pick for the game:
- Quarterbacks -- Jacksonville St.
Running Backs - (push)
Receivers/TEs - Jacksonville St.
Offensive Line - Jacksonville St.
Defensive Line - Jacksonville St.
Linebackers --- Jacksonville St.
Secondary ---- (push)
Kicking ------ (push)
Punting ------ Jacksonville St.
Return Teams - (push)
Kickoffs ------ Jacksonville St.
- Charleston Southern 7-27 Jacksonville St.

JSU is right on the same level as the top teams in the SoCon….there's two games with UTC this year to show that.
Chuck South is on the same level as the top teams in the SoCon…two games with El Cid to show that too.
I see this game being close.
