If NDSU plays like they did last night, it won't even be close. Richmond is a good team and they were blown out. NDSU is smart, disciplined and tackled extremely well.

Wonder what is going to happen with the kicking game over the next couple couple weeks.
From what the coach said last night, the Punter who does kick-offs, holds for PK's and missed an XP last night, had the flu. Guess he graduated, got sick and didn't make it to the dome until 5pm last night.

Hard to predict. I don't think North Dakota State is QUITE as good as it's been the previous four years and I think Jacksonville State's mercenary force is quite talented. But I'm going in expecting that Jacksonville State is going to have unprecedented difficulty in moving the football when they face North Dakota State and it'll be interesting to see how they adjust to that.

Big up front on. Talented D-line. Good quarterback, great running back, great receiver.

I think they should still play the game.

I still think Sam Houston finds a way to pull this one out.

To quote Ric Flair: "To be the man, you have to beat the man."

NDSU until someone actually knocks them off in the Chipper....

I don't think that really qualifies as analysis.

Jax State is very real. Ask SEC Auburn. Ask Chattanooga who couldn't beat them in two tries. Their run in the playoffs is no fluke. Beating Charlestown Southern and destroying Sam Houston solidifies my opinion that this team has a real shot.

I will take the Gamecocks in a small upset. 42-40. The key will be them having "some" success in slowing down NDSU's running game.

Yeah that one is interesting in that both games were very close and could've gone either way.

North Dakota State is obviously from a much tougher league and also came through the tougher of the two brackets. But I was thinking about Jacksonville State the other day and thinking it might be similar to back when Grand Valley State had that great D-II run. The Lakers were from a weak D-II conference but it didn't matter. As an individual team they were very good.

I'm hoping North Dakota State wins though and if I had to bet straight up I'd bet that's what happens. I know the Sam Houston State win was very dominant and I enjoyed seeing Sam Houston State get humiliated because I can't stand that program. But it was weird. That was the biggest margin of victory for Jacksonville State all year and you know Sam Houston State isn't THAT bad nor is Jacksonville State THAT good. It was just one of those games, I think.

Also one thing about Sam Houston State is that the Bearkats were not good on defense and in particular they were not good against the run. They went into the Jacksonville State game giving up 4.8 yards per rush. They'd relied on overwhelming teams with their offense all year and when they couldn't do that they were in serious trouble and their defense got exposed really badly.

North Dakota State's not like that. They've got defense. Defense is the culture of their program. And they're going to have had three weeks to prepare for Jacksonville State's offense. I think it's going to be a totally different animal and a totally different situation for the Gamecocks.

Three week layoff it too long.

It's just right from my standpoint. It allows North Dakota State's defensive staff to thoroughly study Jacksonville State's offense. And I don't think it helps as much to have time to study North Dakota State's offense. I think a layoff like this is an advantage for North Dakota State and that's who I"m pulling for so I'm all for it in this case.

Plus it might mean North Dakota State's NFL caliber quarterback will be ready to play if needed. If I was North Dakota State I would play the other guy unless I felt like I had to make a change or he got hurt. But if they have that NFL caliber quarterback ready to go if they need him that'd be great.

Nope. If the NFL can do a two week layoff for the Super Bowl, the NCAA should be able to accomplish the same for its Championships.

This idea was true when NDSU was playing Willie Fritz's Sam Houston teams, but I'm not sure it applies as much here. JSU's offense isn't gimmicky or "new-fangled," it's just about the Gamecocks putting the ball in their superior athletes' hands. This game likely won't be about clever scheming, it'll be about the JSU defense's ability to contain NDSU's power & precision versus the Bison defense's ability to contain the Gamecocks' power & speed.

The recent decline in Delaware football has turned KC Keeler from an unlikable-though-respected football coach into a mythical, Jesus-like figure. :coffee:
