D2/NAIA to FCS jumps

So this is a topic that's been bugging me for a while and I feel like I need to bring this to light for the simple fact that there's a possibility that we might see a few D2 schools make the jump to FCS in the near future. I'm not saying that it's guaranteed that this'll happen, But it is plausible to think that this could happen with all the teams going from FCS to FBS that some conferences might look to some higher D2 schools to make a jump to the FCS.

What D2 schools would make sense to move up and what conferences should consider them?

Anyone have any comments?

Right now with the invite rule and $1.3 Million fee to go from D-2 to DI, it will be hard to have many more.

North Alabama wanted too, but didn't get a conference invite.

There is no more NAIA to DI allowed - they have to go to D2, spend 8 years there, then they can transition to DI

I know I've been slammed for this, but I still think that replacing the Sioux with Colorado School of Mines would be a good move. They're in the general footprint of the conference and would make a great travel partner for UNC. Dump the outliers....

Mesa would be a better add than Mines and Mesa is horrible.

Texas-A&M-Commerce was doing a D-I study last year and looking to join the SLC. I've heard nothing since.

Carroll might not be a bad pick-up, but I'm not so sure about the idea of having THREE schools in MT....

Carroll too, is NAIA horney...

Most logical, as ever,

1 Grand Valley State
2 Northwest Missouri
3 Colorado State Pueblo

8-)

Yeah, a private Catholic school with only 1,400 hundred total students really fits the conference profile of the Big Sky.

The post title includes NAIA, Wedgie.

Re your suggestions: if you're talking a jump into the FCS as a whole, those would all be good choices. Pueblo would work for the Sky (for the same reasons I like Mines), but the others would be as bad as the Sioux in terms of geography. Send them to a more mid-western conference....
