"Agnone wants you to know that he’s pretty serious when it comes to football. After an injury-plagued season as All-American Ben Patrick’s understudy last fall, the 6-foot-6, 250-pound junior thinks he’s ready to take over the former star’s role.
“I’d like to be used the same way Ben was last year and have no drop off from this year to last year,” said Agnone, who, with his teammates is in the first week of pre-season practice for Delaware’s Aug. 30 season opener at William & Mary.
“I think I’m very capable of doing that. I’m confident that I can make all the same plays Ben did. I’m just hoping that I get the chance to do it.”
Flacco, who also played with Agnone at Pittsburgh, agrees.
“I see him doing the same thing Ben did — or more,” he said. “Obviously, we’re going to see but I expect him to be a big part of the offense. He’s such a big guy and he’s a good athlete. I think we should use him.
”He works hard at it, too. His hands are as good as you can ask for.”
