Haven't done one of these since Obama's first term. The first relevant football game for Delaware in seven seasons. It's been a long road back. It would be awesome to pull off a huge upset here and get the Danny Rocco era rolling for good. I'm hopeful for a good game and maybe a shocking result. The realist in me makes a prediction of 27-14 JMU.

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware football squad returns to action from a bye week and faces a challenging task as the Blue Hens take on defending national champion and No. 1 ranked James Madison for its Colonial Athletic Association opener Saturday at Delaware Stadium.

The game, the 25th all-time meeting between the two schools, will be televised live throughout the region on Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, CSN Mid-Atlantic, SportsNet New York, and COZI TV (WRDE NBC affiliate on Delmarva).

The Blue Hens (2-1, 0-0 CAA), who won their second straight home game with a 41-14 victory over Cornell back on Sept. 16, will need to be at the top of their game as they take on a James Madison squad that enters with a 4-0 mark (1-0 CAA) and is coming off a 28-7 win over Maine in its CAA opener last Saturday.

Delaware, which begins its 32nd season of CAA play, boasts one of the top defensive units in the country and enters the matchup ranked in the NCAA Top 20 in rushing defense (5th at 62.0 yards allowed per game), total defense (16th at 280.7), and scoring defense (11th at 14.7 points per game).

James Madison, which went 14-1 a year ago and captured its second national title, enters with a 16-game winning streak that dates back to September of last season.

The Dukes, who have outscored opponents 189-48 this season, lead the CAA in most every statistical category, including rushing offense, total offense (560.0), scoring offense (47.3), total defense (231.8), and scoring defense (12.0).

Delaware holds a 14-10 edge in the series, including three straight wins in 2012-14. James Madison has won two straight, including a 21-20 win at Delaware Stadium in 2015 and a 43-20 victory last season in Harrisonburg, Va.

The only hope is that there usually seems to be at least one big upset in the CAA every year. This would certainly be classified as a big upset.

Our D is in the top fifth percentile in program history, but the O is bottom tenth. If I was betting, I’d throw piles of cash on the under. This D only gave up 14 points and 303 yds (81 rushing) to VT.

JMU's offense gets a lot of press, but it might not be quite as dominant as last year. Last year 8 on offense received All CAA honors, 6 1st team. (6 of the 8 were available for the semis & NC). This year it might be sleightly less.

The one area that isn't a strength is OC/RG/RT (3 redshirt sophmores). One of them replaced another redshirt soph who was suppose to start at RT but was lost for the season in the summer to injury. The starting RG is injured, so his replacement will be either a rSr who just came off of suspension, a true fr who was one of JMU's top recruits (3 star out of NJ with double digit I-A offers). With the last of the suspensions over, this will be the 1st game with all 5 returning players who received All CAA last year available. Of course Schor has been ridiculous accurate. 72% completion rate, despite at least a 1/2 doz dropped.

I think JMU's defense might even be better than the offense now, and possibly the best the team school has ever fielded. Couple of pre season All Americans at DE and Safety. Every starter seems to be an All CAA caliber player. Very well coached. Of the 6 touchdowns scored on JMU through 4 games, only 3 have been scored on the defense, and only 2 on the starting defense- vs ECU a 25 yard drive after a turnover, and vs Maine a 60 yard run. And the thing that sticks out at you is the SPEED. G5, even P5 speed.

JMU has had its share of injuries (above mentioned starting RT and a 2 deep corner both lost for the season in the summer, co starting RB Cardon Johnson lost during the NSU game, starting RG out as of now), but every team has that. JMU can absorb that better than almost anyone because has very good depth on both sides of the ball, which is hard to get at this level. Thats been helped by the IA transfers- on offense about 4 starters + 2 on 2 deep, and on defense 2 starters + 2 on 2 deep. But about 3/4 of JMU's 2 deep are straight from HS guys.

Outside of this game but I don't know if that's the case. There are suggestions that North Dakota State, after a "down" year last year, is back. Time will tell. But there are suggestions.

Copy of what I said on JMU board. Pretty windy out here. As I recall of the 23 prior games Schor has started, only 2 games at least if not more windy than today: 2015 @ UD and 2016 @ Maine. Without looking at stats, Schor's 2 worst games: 2015 @ UD and 2016 @ Maine. Schor is usually accurate as hell, but doesn't have a huge arm (apparently has improved from last year through). Anyway, a little concerning since UD has a very good run defense...This could get interesting..

So is the attendance as shitty as I expect it to be? I'm guessing 14-16K and about 3K of those in purple. And don't report the announced attendance. It's always bullshit the past seven years. It'll clearly be 10-12K some games and they'll say 18k. Utter BS. I bet they say 20,001 today.

It'll take a lot of work to wash the taste of the last seven years out of the mouths of Delaware fans. I may come back, if results and upgrade plans ever chub me up a little. Until then, TV, radio, or the free stream is all I'll dabble in. The school pissed me off, and they'll have to suck my dick good and long and maybe swallow and fix me a sammich before I'll consider opening my wallet again.
